Just adopted our new family member there. The attention to detail was amazing, how the volunteer lady knew exactly what were needed as a family with 3 little kids. We're glad with Toby, and we're sure that he already love us to. 🐱

Friendly staff, convenient location, no line, reasonable/cheap prices. The only thing I disagree with is that meds are not immediately available & must be mailed from main office. So plan ahead if you need heart worm and/or flea/tick medication.

Visiting DAS is both uplifting and traumatic at same time. The smell of animals hits you when you open the door...then the meowing. Row upon row of homeless cats everywhere you look: some begging for interaction, others resigned and wishing they had a pair of earplugs. Dogs are kept in separate building; you ask desk to see some. If somebody or two catches your eye (heart), they put you and your prospective roomie(s) in a private cubicle to get to know each other. If you decide to offer a forever home, you must fill out paperwork proving you will be a responsible and compassionate owner, and fork over a paltry fee to cover vaccination and chipping (I got lucky, as they had just removed more than 100 kitties from hoarding situations so my new pal was free!). They also throw in 30 days free pet insurance (no preexisting conditions), and you've got 30 days to return animal for whatever reason.
