How to Save Money at Specialists in Companion Animal Neurology (SCAN) - Naples

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just have to say this place is amazing! Warning - this review might get long but it’s worth it! My beloved dachshund, Jack, who is the light of my life suddenly came down with symptoms of IVDD in early May. I took him to his primary vet who referred me to SCAN in Clearwater. Dr. Cook at the Clearwater location was amazing and so kind. He told me he probably needed surgery but I wanted to try alternative methods first. Literally called my vet the day that Jack needed surgery on his day OFF to discuss my dogs prognosis. I did try alternative methods but after 3 days my dog was fully “down” and unable to walk at all and had to do the surgery. Unfortunately this was on the weekend in which Clearwater location was closed. I had to take my baby to the Naples location. Big shoutout to DR. KELLEY! Her bedside manner was impeccable. Literally called me every day with updates. I felt an instant trust upon meeting her and I just knew my Jack was safe with her and in the best care. Because he was in such bad shape and had to stay so long she sent him home with her tech Sam (who was also just above and beyond amazing) his last couple nights because the bills were racking up! They all just have so much love and care for our pets. Cannot recommend enough! Thank you for helping my baby recover and for being there every step of the way. Won’t ever forget your team and your kindness. I pray we’re never back, but if we are, I’m definitely going right to SCAN.

SCAN Neurology Veterinary is outstanding! Their expert team possesses unparalleled knowledge in neurology. The staff's professionalism, compassion, and state-of-the-art facilities create a welcoming environment. They utilize cutting-edge technology for accurate diagnoses and offer comprehensive treatment options. The follow-up care and support are exceptional, with open communication channels. If you're seeking top-notch neurological veterinary services, look no further than SCAN Neurology Veterinary. Highly recommended! It's rare in any business to have someone respond to a Sunday online request (it's was Mother's Day and the office was closed). Malissa responded via text and followed through by calling me on Monday AND took my pet in without a referral. Unparalleled commitment and professionalism.

I felt that me and my dog were welcomed at SCAN and taken seriously. At times, because of my dog's age, his problems and such get chaulked up to just that, 'old age', but I didn't feel that at SCAN. Our doctor is kind, caring, concerned, and invested and together we explore what is best weighing the pros and cons which I value. Our needs are taken seriously, my dog's overall health is looked at, and we got a timely appointment. Staff is great too getting me an answer if I have to call in with a question.

The care and compassion the entire staff showed to not only our pet but to us was incredible. Dr Pancotto performed surgery on our dogs neck to release pressure on his spinal cord from a herniated disk. Not only is she highly skilled but she truly cares. After the surgery Ollie was supposed to spend a night in a pet hospital but he was doing so well Dr Pancotto called me and asked me if I'd like to come and get him avoiding a huge overnight expense. Even though the office was closed she stayed and waited for me to get there. It's gestures like that which are so rare that I won't forget. Thank you so much for everything

SCAN, and Dr. Carnes, have done a wonderful job in helping us with our epileptic puppy. They worked with us on appointments, which tests to run, and medications. It is such a relief to know expert professionals are available for this type of condition. Knowledgeable, helpful staff answering phones and providing followup (so important!), and the expertise of the veterinary medical professionals.
