How to Save Money at Harborside Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Harborside is a very rare combination of amazing qualities. The care, service, and comfort provided by the doctors, technicians, and administrative staff are second to none. We feel extmeley lucky that this is the place our puppies will be cared for as they grow with us.

5-15-2023 Hello Everyone, I would like to add an additional Review for Harborside Animal Clinic from this past Saturday. With our dog Beau, we were referred to specialist called Scan's. They discovered a tumor that can't be treated due to the placement. Due to Dr. Bishop's excellent diagnosis on Thursday of last week and wasting no time we were able to find out why he lost the use of his front paws. We are very sad that soon we may loose him but grateful for the expertise we have received from All of the Doctors and Tech's at Harborside. One other additional note to add: Allison, who is a technician at Harborside was extremely helpful and very understanding with me during our time of need. I was very concerned because I hadn't heard back from the specialist from Scan's. So I call Harborside. Allison not only got the information I was asking for, called the specialist and got in touch with them. But she was very caring and took the time to help me remain calm and understand all the medications and problems I was seeing our little boy Beau going through. If you have a dog don't go anywhere else but Harborside Animal Clinic. They really do care about your animals and you as a person. I experienced this type of care every time with all the dogs we have had over the years. Thank you Dr. March for having the best staff possible to help you in your practice. We love you all so very much!! 3 years ago from today 5-15-2023: Goodness I have been with Harbor side Animal Clinic for over 15 years, I actually cannot remember exactly when we started. So this review is Long overdue!!! Our Doctor is Dr. Miller, she is the most compassionate and knowledgeable Doctor I have ever had. She and her co-workers really do care about you and your animals, I truly believe that. Now due to Covid-19 they have their office setup running like a well oiled machine. For our protection and of course theirs. I have told them I actually like the new way because when my pet goes into the examining room right away. On a more serious side we have been through 2 dogs passing away and right now we are in the same position once again. I have had the moral support and guidance from Dr. Miller to keep our dog Sasha, (15 years old) a little while longer. She has been totally there for every phone call and monitoring our dogs health day by day. I know in a few days or maybe God willing another week Dr. Miller will be totally there for me and my family once we have to make the decision for her to join her other two sisters in heaven. Sassy & Shadow. I can honestly say if you are looking for a new location or happen to have a new Puppy please take my advice and call Harbor Side Animal Clinic you will be very impressed and feel the same way I do "well taken care of for both you and your animal!!"

I Have been going to them for the past two years and never had a problem. Today(6-8-23) I went around 10:15am to get my new kitten her shots. When I had questions about my kitten, the Veterinarian spoke to me in both a condescending and a sarcastic tone, making it seem like the questions I had about my kitten were ridiculous. This was the first time we've been to him as my other pet's primary vet was not in town, this week. When id asked questions, he would bring up how he knew my concerns were not a REAL concern since he's been in this for ten years. Yes, I understand his experience, but that is why I was asking. To get a helpful answer, not to get an answer to make me feel stupid.

The Vets here are super capable and anticipate your needs and wishes. Customer service is great. We've been to at least 4 vets who were closer to us. No need or desire to go anywhere else.
