How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My miniature schnauzer had a nail growing in his nail bed. He is pretty hyper and dramatic to the point that I'm the only one that can groom him. The doctor wasn't sure if they removed all of the nail....but her assistant seemed confident that they did. The anesthesia did not kick in until after the procedure was done, however they did an excellent job! Bonus.....I was able to groom him beautifully at home when the anesthesia finally kicked in! The facility is very clean and the front desk staff is SUPER friendly and professional!

My sweet little angel baby Sage has been going here first time I was worried she had a uti so I wanted to get her in asap and they got me in the next morning with a drop off appt which I was worried about but she was dropped off at 830 and we were called by 10am that we could come get her and if not they would make sure she was fed lunch and taken care of. Everyone was extremely nice we had our second appointment this morning and again everyone was so nice she was done in half hour and both nurse and doctor explained everything to me and our plan going fwd. the ladies at the counter are great and friendly very helpful. The wellness plan is amazing has already saved me probably a thousand dollars already. I accidentally had started a vetchat on the app and closed it quickly but I was called first thing asking if everything was okay with Sage because I had started the chat and they wanted to make sure. We are extremely happy with the care we’ve been given they are doing a amazing job!

Dirty D

So, let me get the bad out of the way first. When I walked in the door I was impressed with the cleanliness but then again it's a brand new building. Where I was a little disappointed was how I was treated when I first walked in (I'm a biker) and I get looks sometimes but honestly the looks I was getting today was very disappointing and disheartening considering I was just there to bring my tiny little dog in. The woman at the counter that waited on me Katie) ended up being friendly But there was an interim person that was facilitating things that quite frankly started out very rough! But let's move past that because it got better certainly. Dr Locker was very helpful as well as friendly. She was extremely thorough in her care in communicated everything very clearly to me. When I went back up to pick my dog up, everybody was extremely friendly at that point. I have suspicions that they realize that I wasn't some crazy person. Just a man that loves his dog endlessly ❤️

This place just continues to go down hill. They don't care about your pets like they used to, just the money they generate. Dropped the dog off at 0800 this morning for an ultra sound (only one of 2 scheduled today for them). My wife went there at 3:30 pm to get him and the ultra sound still hadn't happened. No calls, no updates all day long. They turn your away if your have an emergency, they don't keep their appointments and don't care about you or your pet. They used to be great, but that hasn't been the case for years.

My plan has both my fur babies on the best plan possible, the problem I have n why I got pretty upset is they never told me I couldn't be in 2 different locations for check in that's a problem. The traditions location was very rude to the other location in TX as I drive a truck I have one with me the other at home so with that said the extremely Rude Female has got to be removed from her job or definitely spoken to about her Nasty attitude. So I believe that money is more important to u all, that is completely disgusting. You should take ur responsibility of not telling people about this issue of not being allowed to be at 2 different locations on the same day. That I was never told. You also told my daughter that if I get upset again that you won't see my animals anymore but yet you caused the dam issue by not giving me all the information. I'm so glad u think that u can be wrong n not admit it or apologize either what a great adult u r. Maybe some good retraining is needed for u. You don't put up with people that have issues with not, but u think it's okay to treat people disrespectful bc u work there. If it wasn't for fur babies u wouldn't have a job, but Mom like me believe that my fur babies having all the information is important they are my sons
