How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. James Starr took excellent care of Lilo. He is compassionate and caring not only to his patients but also the patients family and his coworkers. He explained everything. His team Sam and Jordan were great!! We appreciate that we didn’t have to wait long to be seen, the facility is clean and you can stay with your pet the entire time. Everyone there was great!! Thank you all so much!!!

Our 15 y/o pup declined rapidly over Labor Day weekend. We thought we could wait until Tuesday when the regular vet opened to take him in for compassionate euthanasia, but Monday morning knew it was time and we couldn’t keep watching him suffer. I called ahead to confirm they would not try to convince me to do any kind of work up. We arrived and they had a room ready for us, dimmed the lights and brought in extra blankets. The staff was all exceptionally kind and compassionate, didn’t rush us at all and gave my family as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. The cost was better than other places I called and the doctor waived the exam fee. Got a sweet card in the mail today with handwritten notes from the staff, made it seem like they loved our dog as much as we did even though they just met him that day. We are so thankful, this ER made a sad sad day a little better. Thank you for being so kind and compassionate!

Our sweet cat Romeo, was suddenly very sick. We rushed him in and the staff here acted quickly and with so much compassion. They got him comfortable, ran tests and took such good care of my senior boy. Unfortunately, it was Romeo's time to go. The staff let us know in the kindest way. They gave us time and space to say goodbye and I will forever be grateful for that opportunity. As someone that's regularly involved in rescue and foster I'm far too familiar with loosing animals and I know that you're not always given the chance to hold, love and cuddle them when they pass. I couldn't have asked for a better place to be, in a quiet room, petting his soft fur as he moved on very peacefully. I'm heart broken but so very thankful for this clinic and the care and compassion they showed when my husband and I needed it the most. If you need Emergency care for your pet I whole heartedly recommend this Veterinary clinic. The clinic is a huge open space so you can stay with your baby the entire time. You can be with them through everything they need done. This alone makes this clinic so worth going to. I cannot possibly find enough words to describe how thankful I am for the wonderful staff here We chose to bring Romeo home and they placed him in a bag for us and gave us some foot print stamps. Rest easy my sweet little one eyed cat. 4•20•2014 - 6•24•2025

Highly recommend as their hospitality and professionalism are unmatched. I brought in my chihuahua at 2:30AM due to some concerns with eye irritation. I was immediately greeted by the extremely friendly staff who saw my dog was cold and gave her a blanket. Within 5 minutes of my arrival my dog was being seen by Dr Pena & Jamey who quickly were able to address the issue. Within 10 minutes of examining my dog they were able to safely get a clump of hair out of her eye which immediately solved my dogs irritation. Overall, if you’re looking for a place that will treat your pet with the care and and love that you do, this is the place to go. I’m extremely thankful and I know my dog is aswell. 10/10 experience, again would highly recommend.

My experience with VEG has been an excellent, best experience! I cannot say enough good things about it! Dr. Lee is the most compassionate, professional vet. She took care of my dog and made me feel better and made me feel relaxed too. I’d give her 20 stars if I could. The night before I was up there too and Dr. Timberlake was excellent as well. The staff is wonderful and so caring too. I love this place if you need emergency only go to Veg they are the best, and worth the price. My dog felt as relaxed as he could be too even though he was in pain. “Thank you”and don’t look any further Veg is the best for your pets’ emergencies.
