How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They are always great. We grade groomers, vets, and caregivers by how upset our nervous dog is when he comes back to us - he is great. Like he was with us the whole day. They do a great job on communication. And the annual policy is a great price for what it includes and big plus that as he travels the country he has been seen for urgent issues at Banfields in four other states. Having your dog’s easily accessible to a vet who has never seen before is wonderful.

I have had my dog’s health plan at this clinic since 2018, and unfortunately the service has gotten worse over time. My dog needs a monthly allergy medication, something that has always been provided without issues. However, for several months now I have been struggling to get her refills. Even though she had a consultation last month — specifically to renew her prescription — the veterinarian did not leave the refill approved, despite knowing she has been taking this medication every month for years. Yesterday I called and was told by the receptionist that the medication would be ready for pickup today. I went to the clinic during my work hours because my dog cannot stay without this medication, and when I arrived I was informed that I couldn’t pick it up because “there was no refill” and the veterinarian on duty “couldn’t approve it.” This is completely unacceptable considering that: • I have been paying for the plan since 2018; • My dog depends on this medication monthly; • I was told it would be ready; • The clinic is fully aware of the ongoing need for this prescription. It was a total lack of responsibility, organization, and care. It is absurd that a clinic receiving monthly payments for so many years would let a pet go without an essential medication due to internal miscommunication. I will not be renewing the plan when it expires in February, and I am already looking for another clinic that is more reliable, responsible, and professional — there are others that offer the same price with much better service.

Did a routine visit last week and they let me know my dog was due for his testing for a medication he was on. They quoted $160 and some change for it that day. So I went to the check out desk where they confirmed the $160 quote. Yesterday I received a call reminding me of my appointment today. Again, they quoted me $160 and some change. I confirmed we would be there for his testing. Today I go in 15 minutes before our DROP OFF appointment. They sit me down to fill out some papers, and then don’t address me until 5 minutes before his appointment time, where they put me in a room. Now I’m waiting in this room 15 minutes before a tech comes to see us. The tech then tells me it’s going to be $204 and some change. I asked where the extra $44 came from and she leaves for another 7 minutes before coming back to tell me that they ALL gave me the incorrect price and the total is actually $360 and some change…… $200 MORE THAN I WAS QUOTED, and “nothing we can do about it” so I guess my dog doesn’t get his medication anymore because nobody knows how to communicate or do basic math; and instead they all just pick a number to give you a false sense of security. I will NOT be returning to this location.

I brought my cat there to save her life. It turned out that they were very unprofessional and wound up killing her when it was a simple infection that needed to be cured. While I was there, one of the vet techs started insulting me, and my cat. Making fun of her name, then looking through the glass door at me saying that if she was with me, I would make her cringe every day this is very unprofessional such hatred and evil, and should not be allowed. I forgive you though.
