How to Save Money at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I must admit that I walked out of the office with my heart broken after knowing that there is not much that I can do for my precious cat Venus but providing her quality of life while she is with me. Yet, it made a difference having as internist Dr Fishkin. She was very professional, explained everything about the outcome with the FeLV, at the same time she was caring and considerate. BTW: If you enjoy life with a cat, please be aware, PLEASE test for Felice leukemia when they are kittens and vaccine them on time. I must admit I didn’t now about the virus, much less I knew how fatal it is.

The oncology team was great. Helpful and friendly front desk. Dr. Vasquez is a great oncologist. My baby boy might be gone now but I was able to have extra time with him by doing chemotherapy treatments for lymphoma. He handled it like a champ. It is very expensive, but he’s worth it. I have a lot of regrets in regards to his passing but I do not regret doing chemo. Cancer can kiss my a$$!!! ✨🖤Team Edward Forever🖤✨

Dr Young is an amazing Vet. Not only does he have complete medical knowledge but he is also an amazingly companionate person. He gave me the strength to put our sweet Cat named Stripes to sleep and prevent undue suffering. He’s a good Doctor but more importantly a good soul. In fact the entire staff was sympathetic and kind. But Dr Young was over the top. Make him your Vet and you and your pets will never be sorry.

Yesterday morning I had the worst day of my life in VCA Hollywood animal hospital. My pup of 14 years passed away on arrival. My husband and I were inconsolable and our devastation was known. There was nothing anyone could’ve done or said to make us feel better. The staff did the most they could in these types of situations. We were given space and privacy and weren’t rushed once. The compassion displayed by the people who work there was exactly what we needed to get through our tragedy. Karen was amazing and we’ll forever carry the memory of her light and reassuring presence in this moment. Thank you for being there for us. Infinitely grateful for you all.

Review Hi, it took me 7 months to write this to you as I didn't have the courage to recollect. My dog, underwent a knee surgery in November, 2022, with Dr. Jon Dee. He was perfectly fine except he had a heart murmur since childhood but was healthily maintained. He had a ligament tear and went into surgery trusting that this was a simple surgery in the hands of a skilled and experienced doctor who's done countless such surgeries and the surgery actually went well. He was standing up straight and the x-rays looked great and we were reassured that he would be running-not walking- in no time. Dr. Jon Dee fixed my dog's knee perfectly, but the team messed up his heart so bad, that he died within two and half months from heart failure. The day after the surgery my baby walked out with a bad cough that we thought was a kennel cough, and in the follow up were we were assured the same. But his condition worsened daily. It was his heart, we underwent so much during surgery that his condition deteriorated and his heart couldnt pick up again. We made countless visits to the VCA, to neurology specialists, heart specialists and back to VCA in traumatic situations. We found out too late that we only had so little time with our baby. I am a Nurse and I know your care and your anesthesia team messed up in the care of my dog. We went through a lot for 2 1/2 months. We spent thousands of dollars and we lost him. He was only nine. Only nine. We never imagined us wanting to see him walk and run again, the only thing he ever loved, would cost him his life and us our life and love. We never ever thought any of this would happen. We were hit with so much in such little time. No preparations. I want you guys to consider the medical conditions of a dog when you put them under anesthesia and be careful and careful again. Your anesthesia team is horrible and I want my fellow pet owners to be vigilant too. I lost my baby without cause and we don't want this to happen to any other dog.
