How to Save Money at Animal Medical Center & Bird Clinic Of Hollywood

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As someone that works in the vet field, it is so refreshing to find an exotic vet that genuinely cares about even the smallest of his patients! My experience here was absolutely amazing! The doctor was very straight forward with me and was one of the only doctors who I’ve seen that I believe was the most genuine about what was in the best interest of my geriatric rat. Thanks to Dr.Schachner and his amazing team, Dusty will be living out her last couple weeks or months as comfy as possible :) I couldn’t wait to leave a review once I walked out of here and I will definitely be recommending this vet to any exotic patients that come to my clinic!

Will not be going back to this vet again. Today was terrible. I brought my dog in for a allergy injection, and they did not allow me to go back there and be with my obviously very frightened dog. They told me I would have to pay an extra $75 fee to be with my dog, because it counted as an exam. They had never imposed this odd rule before. All I wanted to do was be with her so shed be less afraid. The Dr himself is never in, so all you see is his replacement, a woman that made me and my dog nervous. And the topic of discussion was more money than my pet. I had already canceled the nailed trim because the 3 times I have had my dogs there, they were both returned to me crying, and bleeding, and whimpering and walking funny. They had the wrong dog down for an appointment, they were incorrect about how many visits she had ben to already. Staff is not particularly friendly, and while I ignored that, it seems other people think so too. Do not recommend.

One of the only places that says they deal with exotic animals and ACTUALLY does deal with exotics. Doctor was very nice and showed me how and what he was doing with my rat. People up front where extremely informative and answered all my questions. If they didn't know the answer, they got it for me, instead of just saying "I don't know" like Broward Exotic and Avian Animal Hospital. They don't try to shove test and treatments on you like most other vet places I know of. They go over all prices with you before treatment and do NOT force it. Something I appreciate very much. If you don't want something they recommend, they give you other options. Something most vets will not do. I will now and forever take my rats to them and any of my other "exotic" animals. I've had very annoying interactions with vets, trying to get me to do something with my animals I do not agree with but Animal Madical Center and Bird Clinic has restored some of my faith in veterinarians. I might not know everything about animals but I know enough about animals health and care to know what is, and what is not needed

I was looking forward to taking my pet there on an emergency. I called to see if he could be seen today and the lady on the phone said “we don’t have anything today” I asked nothing at all? Any time? Her answer NOPE. And continued to hang up. What a shame. I heard he is a great doctor.
