How to Save on Veterinary Costs at VCA Coral Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I have used VCA Coral on Cypress Lake for over 20 years. I do because of Dr. Andazola, my vet. He diagnoses problems and gives the best treatment. He is compassionate, takes his time and explains things well. The staff is friendly and helpful. Christina is in charge of the front office and "runs a tight ship". My one complaint would be the amount of time a person has to wait for their appointment when they arrive. But it is because they do take care of emergencies that need help. Also, there is usually a wait on the phone. But I won't go anywhere else because of the care my dog receives.

My dog had been vomiting for the second night in a row — this time with blood — so I arrived at VCA Cypress Animal Hospital before opening and waited outside for the doors to unlock at 7:00 a.m. The reception staff could clearly see us waiting but did not open the doors until after opening time. When I explained the situation and asked if my dog could be seen as an emergency, I was told they were already very busy and had two emergencies on the way (although no other clients were present yet). The receptionist also appeared quite overwhelmed from the start, repeatedly remarking to herself and sounding frazzled while handling phone calls — despite the clinic not yet having any other clients in the waiting room. Eventually, she agreed someone could see him and paged the veterinarian. She then laughed and mentioned the doctor wouldn’t arrive until 7:20 a.m., at which point my dog was scheduled in — and I received both a text and email confirming a 7:20 appointment. At 7:20, the veterinarian arrived, reviewed files, and looking annoyed commented, “Why are there already so many patients?” after being told there were emergency walk-ins. Despite having a confirmed appointment time, my dog was not seen. One by one, other pets who arrived later were taken in ahead of us. By 8:20 a.m., after waiting over an hour past the scheduled time with a visibly ill dog, I asked how much longer the wait would be. The receptionist said she didn’t know and suggested that if I needed to leave, she understood. When I mentioned the confirmed 7:20 appointment, she stated she never said that and could not estimate when we would be seen. Concerned about my dog’s condition, I contacted another VCA location, which booked us immediately for 8:45 a.m. The experience at the Miracle Mile location was excellent from start to finish — professional, compassionate, and efficient. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend VCA Cypress Animal Hospital. I would, however, highly recommend the Miracle Mile location.

We have used Coral Vet for our Miniature American Shepherds for years. They are very professional and take very good care of our canine kids.

Took my cat Milo for a visit because he was scratching his ears and shaking his head so thought it was an infection. Per the usual practice of giving an estimate up front, it was almost $500. I was absolutely shocked! Never really found out what the issue was but the vet said it was probably food allergies and recommended their ridiculously expensive food. Even the vet tech apologized as she mentioned that she knew how expensive they are. The vet really didn’t seem to care about my cat or the prices. Will never go there again or recommend them to anyone.
