How to Save Money at VCA Coral Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We brought my 19 year senior cat in for a checkup and symptoms of a runny nose, eye discharge and coughing. Dr. Curtis gave her a thorough exam -- she was so gentle and kind with our cat and professional and so knowledgeable too! She gave me a few options for treatment and I'm confident my kitty will be better very soon. She wasn't traumatized by the visit at all -- she loved Dr. Curtus. The staff was also super nice -- overall we had a 5 star experience including a piece of mind that I didn't have to spend too much money, and my cat would get much better soon. Thanks VCA :)

Dr Andazola took care of cropping our 3 month old pitbull’s ears. He did a fabulous job and was always kind when he had to do frequent dressing changes cause Tinker-2 spent a lot of her free time doing everything she could think of to remove his handiwork! She is still healing but we could not have asked for a better surgeon. We brought a photo and he was able to crop hers very close to the picture. Here are the before, during and after photos.

2023: i wish the lower review still held true but i would be lying if i said it did. Over the the last 6 years a lot has changed. Staff communication is almost non existent. Dependability goes out the window after they get your payment details. Find a dependable vet you will be better off. Staff is Awesome! Great and knowledgeable! Only place that I will allow to see my big dumb goof of a lab XD. It is always clean and fun trip to the vets. There boarding is awesome and dog loves spending time there away from home when we travel.

Dr Andazola is amazing, informative, caring, and very helpful. I took my African Sulcata Tortoise to him and was so pleased with the care he received that I took my German Shepherd to him when she became sick. The entire team is a pleasure to work with and they are all very helpful and informative. I highly recommend! Thank you VCA Coral Animal Hospital, and thank you Dr Andazola!

We were searched for a place to take care of Rocky since we would be out of town for 30 days and wouldn't be able to take him with us. First I visited Cat Nap Inn and chatted with Debbie and was very pleased with her and how she answered my questions and concerns. The facility and was very clean, open and airy. Though I would have preferred keeping Rocky home that wasn't a choice and Cat Nap Inn would definitely provide very well for him in our absence. Daily care costs were reasonable too. Next we brought Rocky for a visit. Both of these visits were not scheduled and provided me with how the facility would be without someone preparing for my visit. Rocky stepped out of his carrier and really took immediately to Debbie and the area appointed for furry friends to stay. I was truly thrilled with his happiness from there forward. Debbie notified me a few times while we were away by text to let me know how he was doing and even sent me two photos of him out and about. Upon our return I found many furry friends also staying there and definitely noticed how clean the area was as well as how well they all appeared to be and when Rocky was let out he was in very healthy and happy. I have determined that the folks here at Cat Nap Inn and the VCA Coral Animal Hospital will definitely be where we will take Rocky for his check-ups, medical care and needs for care when we are unable to take him with us. I highly suggest this facility to anyone - no doubt about the care, Debbie and the staff at VCA Coral Animal Hospital and Cat Nap Inn are amazing and definitely care about our furry friends.
