How to Save Money at Fort Myers Animal Hospital - Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They attended us at the time of the appointment, everything was very fast, the Dr explained the entire process to us, and recommended the best foods for puppies. She also gave us information on insurance for animals. The place is very clean and the people are very nice.

The first thing I will say about myself is that I am a certified veterinary technician with 25 years of experience. I left veterinary medicine because i spent 25 years watching clinics, clinic managers and owners abuse both staff and clients. So when I call a clinic and ask for a price on routine care such as an office visit and rabies vaccines, and the receptionist tells me that they can't give me that price, without me first paying a $65 fee. It angers me to the core. This is an entrapment tactic. Get them in and immediately force them to pay a $65 fee... then they will feel obligated to follow through. This is forcing your clients into a Sunk Cost Fallacy. This is unethical and a practice of bad medicine. Less knowledgeable people may fall for this, but as an insider, you will NOT get my business or endorsement. There should be a 0 star option.

Horrible service. Booked an appointment for my injured dog and had to wait over a week for it. Then was called a day before only to be told they were booked that day and I could not be seen for over another week. So they double booked a surgery and pushed my poor injured pup aside. They do not honor their agreements, I can only imagine in horror the level service your beloved pets get when they take them in their back room. Which is even more sketchy. You will never meet the actual vet, they send their assistants in and out to talk to you for the most part. If I could give 0 stars I would

Took my puppy Mia to this location today. In love with the staff and the attention. They took care of my puppy just like she was there own. The veterinarian was extremely helpful and informative. I would definitely be using them from now on for all our appointments.

After an horrible experience at another vet I started to take my dog here. They treated him amazingly. My dog is about 8 months old and I brought up at his last appointment I would prefer if he would be placed on a certain Heart-worm and Flea/Tick medication. I was told that he was not allowed to be placed on that and I will have to wait until his one year check up and maybe speak to the doctor about it. I agreed and now I’m paying over 80 dollars a months for two medications I have to fight with my dog to take. I just recently got a new puppy and just tried to call to see if I can get an appointment for his vaccines and I was told they don’t have a doctor on Wednesdays. What do you mean you don’t have a doctor on Wednesdays? She didn’t even ask if I wanted to try another day or anything. Just hung up the phone. I think it’s safe to say I will be trying to find another vet to take my two puppies to. They were great at the beginning but now I feel like they’re just going down hill.
