How to Save Money at Pine Ridge Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve been coming here for years. Doctor Grey is a good doctor and very knowledgeable. Nothing against her at all. Someone else in a review mentioned they are spread too thin. I think i agree. We always wait very long times. This last visit was an annual and we were there 2 HOURS. This was just too much. When i asked the staff how long annuals take she mentioned 30 min but mine wasn’t a typical annual and said she was sorry but there was no reason why. 2 hours for a routine visit is unacceptable. I don’t know if it’s just us or anyone else. I wrote this review then deleted it thinking the staff would offer an explanation but when i got no explanation i decided to write the review. There may be a good reason why we always wait so long or maybe not but they didn’t share that info. Next time we will emphasize that we don’t want to wait so long for simple visits.

When I first started bringing my Yorkie here I was very pleased with the staff, appointment availability, emergency walk-ins, and cleanliness however over the past year or so it has gone downhill. Appointments are months out, you can never get in during an emergency, they charge for unnecessary things just to milk you for every penny (ex: needed a refill on flea medicine and had to pay for an office visit and heartworm test before getting the prescription), and after waiting 30-45 minutes past your appointment time to finally be seen the vet spends very little time with you in the exam room. I'm currently looking for a new vet for my fur baby.

I had a wonderful experience today with my new vet . They took such good care of my Angel. Dr. Forest and her assistant you were absolutely wonderful. I am so glad I found a caring vet that I can count on to help me out with my little girls allergies. Thank you. If I could give you more stars, I would.

Unfortunately last week I had to put my 16 year old baby Gloria down. This was definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. From the moment I walked in to the time I left everyone was very sensitive and compassionate. I love how comforting the vet and techs were. Since our very first visit the entire staff at Pine Ridge has treated my dog with so much care. The vets are very educated and make it easy for anyone to completely understand what’s going on. No vet clinic is cheap but Pine Ridge always gives you a breakdown on how much everything will be BEFORE any examination and try to give you a cheaper route. My dog has always had anxiety going to vet clinics but never has coming here. I came to pick up my dog’s urn today which was very difficult and the receptionist (Erin i think) was very soft spoken. It’s unfortunate that I won’t be coming here anymore but I will definitely recommend ANY dog mom/dad to come here. We love you guys. Thank you for taking great care of my sweet angel.

I’ve now met with both Dr Forrest and Gray and I have to say everyone has been absolutely fantastic. Every tech I’ve met with has gone above and beyond for my dog. They are always very transparent and can usually get us in same day for a drop off if needed. Very well spoken, educated doctors and staff. Even the ladies at reception are so compassionate and pleasant. I can’t recommend them enough. My dog is reactive and can be nervous and they always make sure to take their time with her and ensure she is comfortable. They’re the best and I’m so glad I started taking her there!
