How to Save Money at Animal Health Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Would not recommend this place, Took my dog for vaccines and nail trim, while cutting my dogs nails, we heard a horrific yelp from the back room where they cut the nails, When vet assistant came back in the room she said it was him that made the cry. When we got home the dog was in not himself, we thought it was a reaction to the 3 vaccines, He became lame and was in pain, my wife schedule an appointment to follow-up with the Vet. She was charged again, a week latter my dog was still ill, this time I called the vet, and they said they would do an check up on him "no charge" When I arrived at the vet, they took us into an exam room, and did a physical exam, just touching the dog no test, the they bring me a bill for $179.00. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THE DOGS CONDITION WAS A RESULT OF 3 VACCINES AND INJURY While CUTTING NAILS. And both my dogs have been patients 6 Years

We discovered this Clinic by searching out local animal surgery centers. Not only were they the most reasonably priced they are local. Our Mastiff had TPLO surgery on her leg. Everything went very well. She healed wonderfully and fully recovered. We also take our Boston there for yearly check ups and nail jobs. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The Vets are top in their fields. After being to every Vet in Hernando County THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE TO TAKE YOUR PET IF YOU LOVE THEM. I have had vets do guess work and actually say to me, I'm not a good Vet. The people here love and care for your pet. They can do anything that is needed, you don't have to go somewhere else for surgery. Their prices are extremely reasonable and affordable. This is a 5 star veterinarian.

I've been bringing my kitties here since 2009. Staff is friendly, caring and empathetic to clients' needs. Reasonable rates. Clinic is always clean and pleasant-smelling. Drs Collazos, Readdy and Hughes have taken great care of my cat-kids and I trust them 100%.

This vet and the whole staff are phenomenal people I just went through some trouble times with my dog Guido before he passed away. I was new to this vet and they couldn't have treated me better or my dog. I now have a replacement for this dog and I ran to them to get this dog checked and I'll have some things done with this dog. I recommend this that to everybody they are fantastic they're fairly priced and they treat the animals great. They sent me a rose after my dog died and also a card.

We came to euthanize our dog, but she such a loving dog and gets so excited around people so dr. Hughes didn’t want to euthanize unless she knew for sure it was necessary after doing a thorough examination out of her own pocket and expense. She determined our dog had liver and pancreatic cancer and we’re so grateful to have an answer. And have peace. God bless these people for all they done for us today. They treated our dog Chevy like she was they’re own I will be forever grateful for this experience
