How to Save on Veterinary Costs at River Landings Animal Clinic

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Very friendly service and my dog is always taken care of. And quick update, I would also like to point out how accommodating they are. I work long hours and my wife stays at home with the kids. So I drop my dog off and they literally bring her to the car when my wife picks my dog up so she does not have to get out with my young children. Very pleased with their service.

If I could give this place fewer than one star, I would—and my 84‑year‑old mom would probably try to call them to tell them so (even though I explicitly told them to call ME). 🙃 We brought in our 14‑year‑old pug for a simple teeth cleaning and to check whether he needed extractions as he had been bleeding from his nose for about 3 weeks. When I first made the appt, we were told it would be approx/ but no more than $600. For just the putting him asleep and doing the cleaning would be approx $297. They mentioned extractions at approx $30 a piece. I asked them directly—twice—to contact me with any updates and communication regarding this. My moms driver that took the dog even reminded the staff regarding the communication plan again the day of the appointment. Fast‑forward to later: My sister calls to tell me they discovered a lump in the back of his throat that was likely cancer and to call my mom - mind you I have not seen a call from the vet at this point! We made the heartbreaking decision to put him to sleep as he would struggle to even take pills to manage this issue. When I called back for details, they told me they had “just been on the phone with my mom.” Not only confusing, but exactly what I asked them not to do. Then the bill came. Almost $1,000. When I asked what the total included and why was teeth cleaning included here, they put me on hold and returned with, “Your mom said just do everything.” My 84 year old mom, by the way, who was not supposed to be making decisions and doesn’t remember this conversation at all. At this point I took a deep breath, stared into the middle distance, and tried to process how a $297 cleaning turned into a $1,000 mystery bundle. And honestly—if they truly believed our dog had a tumor in his throat, who on earth proceeds with a dental cleaning or extractions? The math ain’t mathing. I’m disappointed, frustrated, and genuinely shocked that a vet clinic would handle such a sensitive situation this poorly and add unnecessary financial stress on top of emotional distress, leaving us with the unsettling feeling that my mom was taken advantage of during an already vulnerable moment I’m sharing this so others know: 👉 Get every detail in writing. 👉 Question every charge. 👉 Make sure the vet actually communicates with the person you designate. Losing a pet is hard enough. You shouldn’t have to fight a billing battle on the same day.

I love this vet clinic! Exceptional vet and staff! My dog does not like to be touched if she's in pain. Other vets wouldn't go near her if she barked. River Landings animal clinic took great care of my dog and took all the stress I would normally have going to the vet away.
