How to Save Money at Newport Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My husband and I are so grateful we called Newport Animal Hospital when our 11-year-old miniature Goldendoodle was suddenly lethargic and seemed in pain. They had us come in when we called. The staff was friendly, professional, and efficient. Dr. Andrew listened, asked questions, and was wonderful in answering any of our questions. The blood work was done, and the results were gone over with us immediately. Fortunately, it was not serious. We left with a clear understanding of what to watch for and when further tests might be needed. My husband is an executive, works with numerous businesses, and has high expectations for service. He was impressed with Newport Animal Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Andrew and the staff for helping Maggie this morning!

I would like to thank Dr. Monk and Ryan at Newport Animal hospital. I just moved to the area and my dog became sick, I did some research and Newport Animal Hospital had great reviews. Please add my name to your list of fans and 5 star reviews. Ryan was able to get me an appointment right away and we we had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Monk. I have had dogs my whole life and I have never met such a caring, compassionate and intelligent veterinarian. Although, my pups news wasn't good, Dr. Monk took the time to explain his condition, treatment and prognosis. He never rushed us and even called the next day to check on my sweet boy Louie. The office is clean, we were seen right on time and everyone that we spoke to that day treated Louie and I like we were old friends that they cared about. I am so grateful for Dr. Monk and Newport Animal Hospital. Thank you again.

We left our old vet due to horrible customer service with not only the front desk, but also with the Doctors. Our experience with Newport was like night and day from the minute we walked in and were greeted professionally. Within three minutes. We were brought back to an exam room with . Immediately a vet tech came in to review all of their records from previous Vet. Within a few minutes Dr. Andrew came in and did a very thorough exam on both of the dogs. We never felt rushed. He gave us plenty of opportunity to ask multiple questions. The office was clean and ran very efficiently. So happy to have found a new Veterinarian office that truly cares about their patients.

I literally fired TWO vets before taking my puppy, Creek, to visit Dr. Andrew for the first time yesterday. (That's how serious and protective I am of my baby!) Madison was a jewel to work with while booking my appointment! (My Vet of 15 years was fired because of the sassy, mean girl answering his phone.) Dr. Andrew's staff was so patient and kind to my baby who was terrified! Jacob greeted us at the door, came over to love on Creek, and was extremely helpful until we departed. Dr. Andrew spent SOOOO much time with us, I thought I was going to have to ask HIM to leave the room. (Kidding, but so attentive in making sure all of my questions were answered.) Don't believe the negative comments you read online...it is almost ALWAYS the competition writing those comments. (I am in sales, and that's a fact!) Creek will be a LIFETIME patient of Dr. Andrew's and his caring staff at Newport Animal Hospital.

Our dog Charlie is 90 pounds of mush if you can get to know him. He is very protective and animal/people selective. We needed to find a new vet that could care for him as much as we do and that could cater to his needs. We found Newport Animal Hospital and Dr Fonts. Charlie and I had a fantastic visit and relieved a lot of stress, anxiety and tension. Yvette, the tech was so caring and loving, took their time and Charlie warmed up to both immediately. I have never seen him so happy with strangers. Highly recommend!
