How to Save Money at Veterinary Urgent & Well Care Center Of Plainville

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The veterinary team's conscientious approach did not go unnoticed. They allowed us to spend as much time as we needed to say our final goodbyes, giving us the priceless gift of those last undisturbed moments with our irreplaceable companion. In a world where time feels like a scarce commodity, this generosity was a solace to our grieving hearts. But their thoughtfulness did not end there. They provided us with an imprint of our dog's paw, a tangible memory that we could hold onto and cherish. This poignant keepsake serves as a gentle reminder of our furry friend's presence and the unspoken love that lingers beyond their physical departure. In the aftermath of loss, it is the gentle, mindful care of a supportive veterinary team that helps ease the heartache. And for that, I am forever grateful.

I took my cat there on 4/13/24 and they were so very helpful. Dr. Ayotta was not only extremely pleasant but also patiently explained everything to me thoroughly! Alaija was one of the techs and was very good at her job and very sweet and professional. Don’t hesitate using them for wellness checkups as well as urgent care.

Visiting family for 2 weeks, my service dog Hunter developed an ear infection. I found this wonderful vet center through a Google search. I am thankful for Dr Satyender’s thoroughness in caring for Hunter. The in-house cytology testing was a bonus, so we knew exactly what bacteria was infecting Hunter. This isn’t always available at all vets, so I was glad to hear they could do it! Dr Satyender was patient, kind and I didn’t feel rushed when dealing with him. He welcomed my questions and concerns as well. All of the staff I dealt with was patient, kind and treated Hunter warmly. I was told upfront that due to construction, they are doing curbside handoffs. I was also told the wait time would be 30 min to 3 hrs. I, unfortunately, have first hand experience with emergency vets in 2 other states. We had the same wait time at those as well. So this wasn’t a big deal, as I was just grateful to get wonderful care for Hunter tonight! (And our wait time was just about 2 hours until Hunter was seen.) Again, if your pet is not feeling well, I HIGHLY recommend this vet center! Dr Satyender and staff will take great care of your pet!! OH! Prices were extremely reasonable and not much higher than our home state of Pennsylvania. We carry Trupanion Pet Insurance on Hunter, so we never have to worry about affording quality care! Thank you again Veterinary Urgent & Wellness Center!

My French bulldog puppy ingested a friend’s medication and our vet told us we needed to seek immediate treatment. I was in Bristol & this was the closest urgent care. Upon arrival, I was upset that the front door was locked & we had to call the office. They would not allow us inside due to renovations & this made me very uncomfortable. The vet technician was so reassuring (Alisha) and promised me they’d take good care of my puppy. They came out to give me progress reports & the vet came out to the car to explain the treatment and was very professional and reassuring. The visit was $200 for an exam & fluids and my pup is home & healthy. Thank you to the staff at Plainville Urgent Care for their expertise!
