They have helped me so much with my pup! Marvel has Addisons disease and needs to be seen every 27 days and they've been so great over the years! I truly credit them with saving his life and they have become like family to us. This is by far one of the best places in my opinion that you can take your pet!

I’ve been taking my pets to VCA Old Canal for over 10 years, starting with my 2 senior cats, who were around 15 when I switched to the practice. VCA provided wonderful, compassionate care in their old age. They were truly understanding and respectful of my values around quality of life. After that, when I adopted my first dog and came to every visit with a ton of questions, they were patient and helpful. We quickly learned that my pup is extremely fearful of vet visits and needs medication for them. They’ve been great with her, working with me to figure out the best approach. The practice is well run and organized and many of the staff have been there the whole time I’ve been using them.

I have been going to VCA hospitals for years and have had good experiences at all other locations but Old Canal was my first bad experience I went to VCA Old Canal for an international health certificate. The vet who examined my dog and signed the certificate was rude and lacked knowledge about the process. This was extremely frustrating and she then blamed me for not knowing certain information. They dropped the ball countless times. First being the vets rude remarks and lack of knowledge in the area. When I asked her about the process coming home from traveling her response was "I dont know usually when people do this certificate I never see them again". (I wonder why). Second being how they scheduled me 8 days prior to traveling when ideally it is suppose to be 10 days out. The vet then proceeded to blame me for this when it was them who scheduled the appointment. I called in advance to double check this was okay no one ever said anything. They did not tell me that the US vet office moved from NY to NC, which again they had plenty of opportunities to do so as the appointment was scheduled months in advance. The vet at VCA Plainville then told me she wasn't sure it would get there and back to me in time for traveling. Third, I later found out that they could have sent the paperwork/documents to the US vet online. When I questioned them about why they did not present this to me as an option they responded "Unfortunately, we do not upload the documents into the VEHCS because of the number of internal system errors we've experienced using the system." To me this sounds like because it's inconvenient for them they decided to not use this system. I am also sure this system must cost them money and they probably want to save money even though they charge so much for the certificate itself. I believe if there is an easier quicker option for clients then they should be offering it to clients, especially when something is time sensitive. I believe their system is extremely flawed to not offer this to their clients who are paying a lot of money for this service. I will never be going to VCA in Plainville again and do not recommend it.
