How to Save Money at North Springs Veterinary Referral Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Really glad this place opened up and that I drove the extra 10 minutes north from Animal ER Care (great hospital also, just swamped!). Very helpful staff & general veterinarians. We were impressed with the facilities, clean with quick service: on top of general vet services, they offer emergency & ICU care, as well as specialty veterinarians! They’ve been there for me for two of my cats over the past couple of months, even though they very recently opened! Caring, polite, quick and professional, highly recommend!

Very happy with our visit to North Springs Veterinary Referral Center. It is a welcoming, clean facility with sweet front desk staff. It seemed like there were PLENTY of staff working. The fact that when you came in they triaged your pet to make sure they were OK is AMAZING. I noticed the hospital manager being involved as well as another type of manager. The Dr. was very kind and the tech Tiffany was so sweet, she really listened to me! This visit created a COMFORT for me knowing an ER Vet is so close that I would feel comfortable going to. (I've been to some awful ones in Denver.) Their prices were more than fair, and more importantly we weren't just treated like a number. (I liked the screen in the corner that showed where you were on the list! )

I’ll spare you all the bloody pictures, but our boy was in HORRIBLE shape. He was missing for 8 days, was hit by a car. Our family vet was tending to his injuries and most likely planning to amputate. His next appointment was on Monday 12/11. Before he could make it to that appointment, Huck chewed through his bandage, and his leg in the process. The wound covered half of the front of his leg. With the bone exposed through the full length of the wound. I took him here. With barely any money. Before we knew how bad it was the plan was to clean him all up and get a new bandage for around $600. Then while they had him in the back, two of the staff came out to get me. They asked how much our family vet quoted us, and I replied “about 2000$” to which he replied “we’re going to make this happen tonight for the same price for the safety of Huck” We still didn’t even have that, but they helped us with many options, and eventually we paid what we could and was helped with the rest by a family member. Surgery was around 11PM and he was on his way home at 6AM. His incision looks good, he’s already eating and drinking. He has pretty good balance already too, but is on kennel confinement for his hip also. MY POINT IS. these people at this vet SAVED HIS LIFE. They straight up told me this was a life saving surgery. They are the highest rated Animal ER in the Springs for a reason! I drove all the way from near Woodland Park. And it WAS WORTH IT. Bless them and all their kind staff. Because of them we didn’t lose a family member. Not to mention how kind, compassionate, caring, prompt, and professional they all are.

I unfortunately had to put my beloved dog to sleep this past Sunday. He was truly my heart. It was a very devastating time. He had incurable cancer. They were extremely nice to me, and very compassionate. They took care of me and my dog in a very difficult circumstance. The veterinarian and staff could not have been nicer or more professional He was going to be euthanized at home on the following day, but he became too sick to make it. I came here in search of help.

Had an excellent experience at the ER here while our bulldog was hospitalized. We dealt with numerous doctors, nurses, and reception staff over the course of his stay and they all were amazing! There was plenty of communication with us and we were able to speak with his doctors on a regular basis which was great. Emergency and ICU veterinary care certainly comes at a cost, so don’t expect anything less here, but we were never worried about the care and attention he was receiving. They also allow visits which is nice! My one area of improvement for the hospital is that we did not receive a phone call the morning after our dog’s discharge or since he’s been home from his 5 day stay. I did end up having a question that I was able to call and easily get answered, I just thought it was strange there was no follow-up after a lengthy stay. Overall though, not a dealbreaker and would still highly recommend! Thanks for all your hard work taking care of our boy!
