How to Save Money at Apollo Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I will never go here again, I came in, my dog is having some stomach pains for three days (on and off) and I just wanted to check up on advice on what to do for his tear stains and possible ear infection (I’ll probably go to a pet store for eye and ear drops) but i explained this to the doctor, he came in, looked at my dog for less than a minute, immediately said he’s going to get his assistant for an X-ray, without even asking me if I wanted to do an X-ray and giving me an estimate (I had to ask myself for the estimate etc) he goes and gets me an estimate, once he came back after consulting with my family we decided not to do the X-ray, after I told the doctor we won’t be doing the X-ray and will be monitoring his condition as he is doing better the last few days the doctor is running out the door faster than I could speak, gave off the WORST impression, it was so face slapping to me to see a doctor who so clearly valued whatever money they could squeeze out of the patient without even consulting or asking the patient if they are okay with cost and any other things before ordering their assistants to do anything. I will never be recommending this clinic to any of my dog park friends, my dog friendly family or anyone else ! I thank the doctor for his opinion on what he thinks could be troubling my dogs stomach but the blatant disregard and unprofessional behavior is out of this world, the first desk assistant was nice but the second one just was not nice or friendly or put together with the information they presented. Go to the Lafayette pet clinic if anything or the moraga pet clinic, at least they’ll treat you like they have the time of day for you!

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE YOUR BELOVED PET HERE! I wish I can rate this clinic 0 stars! Absolutely horrible staff and a terrible Vet Doctor! My pet needed surgery and they asked for the credit card numbers for her immediate surgery and I provided them as such. I have two credit cards for vet bills.I mistakenly gave them the wrong one when I apologized and corrected the numbers I was IMMEDIATELY brushed off and told I couldn’t be help anymore and told to leave the clinic because the vet doctor was “too busy”. I was completely in shock because how can someone completely brush me off when I need care for my dog and was willing to put the money up. I was treated like I couldn’t afford the surgery when I could have. I ended up having to put my dog down today and I am completely heartbroken and left empty knowing my dog didn’t receive the care she needed when it came to life and death. A message to the vet doctor: IF YOU DO NOT LIKE HELPING PEOPLE AND ANIMALS GET OUT OF THIS FIELD, YOU ARE MONEY HUNGRY AND GOD WILL NOT HAVE MERCY ON YOU FOR TREATING HIS CREATIONS LIKE THIS! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE PLEASE I BEG OF YOU! THIS VET CLINIC ABUSES YOUR PETS AND ONLY WANTS YOUR MONEY! THE NURSES ENABLE HIM AND DO NOT STOP THE ABUSE!!!!

Charging is the goal, pet care?…. I have no problem paying $350 for the X-ray when its needed… But then when you try to sell me over $400 for blood & lab work when the initial diagnosis is chronic dehydration…then the X-ray shows chest congestion & an empty gut…seems to me like I.V. & antibiotics are in order first. This is the second time this Vet did this to me. The first time, I said no to the Xray & lab work. I asked for an antibiotic shot & med’s and an abscess healed & the cat was fine. This time, I paid for the X-ray and the $95 dollar assessment fee. But when you leave this place with $1000 in charges before anything really gets done, its very frustrating to say the least. I hope when I pick up my cat they at least provide the service (I.V. W/ B-vitamins and antibiotic) they charged me for. At that point it should be up to me to decide what I want to do next and not be led down a path to a $1500+ charge for cold symptoms.

Dr. Gil is the best!! He will assist you perfectly with your concerns and answer you questions professionally. Compared to the other Dr. Kevin which is the worst that I’ve ever met! Never want to listen to customer’s complaints or concerns. He will cut you off every time you tried to explain your issue. My dog was there and it was Dr Kevin who see’s him. And unfortunately he almost harm my dog by giving wrong dosage of medication and he is blaming it to other staff even if he should be the one making sure the order is correct. The worst!! Very rude!!!

They were very good! My poor pity was dehydrated and had a UTI. They checked all possibilities with an xray just in case it was kidney stones..took us in the back to examine the xray and explain what we were looking at and set up hydrating options and meds. Great service and my blue nose is back healthy in a couple days.
