How to Save Money at Home Pet Euthanasia of Southern California

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The time came one morning that our beloved Mystic, a blind & deaf 14 yr old dog, finally told us it was time for him to go. Within a few hours, Home Pet Euthanasia had a vet arrive at our house. In the comfort of our home, with familiar smells and petting in his favorite place to lie, the vet allowed him to peacefully leave us. The vet was so incredibly tender and caring to us, and more importantly, to Mystic. We received his ashes in a timely manner, and scattered them in the front yard where he liked to dig.

Extremely kind, empathetic, and professional. I made the arrangements for my senior dog, Jada, over the phone with Mary. She expressed her condolences and was very attentive and patient. She grasped what a difficult situation this was for us and responded accordingly. We had called around, and unfortunately - this was not always the case. This was the ultimate reason we went with Home Pet Euthanasia of Southern California. Mary explained everything in detail and addressed any concerns/questions in a caring way. It was a comforting conversation for such a difficult experience. I knew that my dog would be in good hands in their care. Dr. Daniel came to the house and was very kind, patient, respectful and empathetic. He didn't rush us at all and made sure we were ready and comfortable. He helped us understand the process in a caring way, also understanding the difficulty of the situation. My interactions with both Mary and Dr. Daniel were very comforting. It is obvious that they do what they do for the right reasons - they were all heart. They made this experience more manageable for us. Couldn't recommend more highly. Thank you so much.

I'm so thankful to Dr. Daniel and Home Pet Euthanasia of Southern California for their gentle, kind, and loving care they took in euthanizing our Ed. Ed was such a wonderful part of our family and he deserved to pass on peacefully and with the love of his family. Dr. Daniel and HPEOSC were exactly the team we needed to help us get through this very difficult day and I would recommend them to anyone struggling with the tough process of laying their fur baby to rest. They were compassionate and caring from the very first call through the end of the process, and I'm positive we made the best for choice for our Ed and in using their services. We miss our big boy Ed so much

It’s so difficult to say goodbye to beloved furry family members and I just want to extend our gratitude for the delicate & caring handling given to us each step of the way. We sincerely appreciate the professionalism of all of the staff we interacted with, and most of all, for helping our Coco pass peacefully at home. From the initial phone call to the technician, we felt that all involved were very sensitive to our situation; they respected what we were going through by giving us space to process and mourn in one of the most raw moments of life. Thank you for your kindness in such a difficult time. We appreciate your service, and we highly recommend you to others in similar situations.

Unfortunately, none of us are able to cheat death with our beloved pets and I'm so thankful that this team of vets exist. I had to say goodbye to my soulmate this weekend, and Dr Lisa came over to help us send him on his journey. She made this experience almost as beautiful as it was heartbreaking. From the moment she entered our home she was so gentle, respectful, and kind. To us, and to our Frank as well. Her warmth could never be adequately described. She asked us questions about who Frank was and about our story together... it made us feel that this wasn't just "another appointment" to her and it was a much appreciated distraction to the heartbreak that we were already living in. She answered every question from start to finish. Even the back of her car was decorated with such care so that our last images of him are surrounded by beautiful flowers and comfy blankets. Sandra at the office helped me set up the appointment and I can't thank her enough for her kindness and her words will truly stick with me for a lifetime.
