How to Save Money at Rancho Vet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Hernandez, Jasmin and Clarissa are amazing! I'm so glad our neighbor recommended we go have a 2nd opinion for our dog Stitch. Previous vets diagnosed Stitch with arthritis and we were having monthly Librela shots with no improvements in limping of the /lameness in the hind legs. We had the wrong diagnosis. Apparently Stitch has degenerative myelopathy and Dr. knew very well how to treat and provide recommendations. After our 2-3 weeks of laser treatments and Physical therapy appointments, Stitch is now running again. We can see HUGE improvements. What took 40-50 mins to walk around the block is now taking ~20 mins. I appreciate how our appt never feels rushed and the ladies treat us like family there. Most importantly the patient, Stitch, feels comfortable every time and isn't afraid of his treatments or seeing the vet (unlike other previous experiences of anxiety with other vets). Emotionally it was a tough time for me as well as I was thinking it was the end of the road for my little guy. After our appointments and the positiveness of everyone, our outlooks is much different now. Book an appointment and feel confident that you are in great hands! Dr. Hernandez and all her staff genuinely love animals and have their best interest in mind. She is super compassionate, friendly, professional, beautiful with positive radiating energy. Thank you so much for helping Stitch be able to run again after a year+ of limping. I appreciate all the support and kindness from Rancho Vet.

I had an amazing experience at Rancho Vet, and I can’t recommend them enough! From the moment we walked in, Dr Hernandez and Jasmin were incredibly warm and welcoming, making both me and my dog feel right at home. What truly stood out to me was how attentive they were to my dog’s comfort, ensuring he wasn’t stressed or anxious throughout the visit. Dr. Hernandez was thorough in her examination and took the time to really listen to my concerns. She didn’t just treat the obvious symptoms but carefully considered all possible underlying causes, explaining each step of the diagnostic process in a way that made me feel informed and confident in the treatment plan. I was also impressed by the state-of-the-art equipment they have at the clinic. It’s rare to find a vet who gives you the sense that they’re looking out for your pet in every way possible, and I felt so reassured knowing my furry friend was in such capable hands. Thank you for the excellent care—I'm so grateful to have found this clinic!

Thank you Dr. Hernandez and Jasmine for your compassion educations and wonderful interactions with my dog. I have been to vets in the past that my dogs shake when going and they are not able to relax. At Rancho Vet the staff make it a peaceful and supporting environment for my dog to get his treatment. I am very impressed with the time Dr. Hernandez takes with my dog and the knowledge she shares about the conditions my dog has. A shout out to Jasmine who has been working with me and my dog doing laser treatment she gets my dog to relax and even start to fall asleep during treatment. I would recommend Rancho Vet services to any pet owner that wants to have a positive supportive experience for there animals. Celeste H.

I transferred here from my cat’s regular vet and I’m so happy with the care! A very nice and caring doctor, with thorough approach, premises are clean and new, I had a great experience overall. Today was our second visit, doctor helped successfully with our previous issue, an FIP virus. Prescribed meds and was in touch regarding some issue with the pharmacy very quickly. What else important- they don’t try to exaggerate and charge you as much as possible! The issue I had with all the previous vets I tried.

Dr. Hernandez has been SO helpful! Our two cats were dealing with some behavioral issues and we've seen a huge improvement with her recommendations. I also appreciate how much time she takes to educate and make personal recommendations she's tried & tested herself.
