How to Save Money at Ark Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Everyone working here is kind and meticulous about their work. When prescribing something for one cat, they consider my other, absent cat. They always make time for me and they have fantastic hours. It’s so nice to have a vet I can count on. Before, I went to a vet near my house, but they couldn’t get a single thing right and they never had time for an emergency appointment. I’d much rather drive an extra 25 minutes to come to ARK. Thanks so much ARK staff and doctors for taking such great care of Chess and Checkers! You’ve saved them more than a few times now!

I came in to get my pup checked on a wound he had on his paw. I sadly cannot afford Pet Insurance but I more t Happy to pay good money for my fur baby. I was sent into an exam room & I could hear Dr. Chahal ask his staff, "Does she have insurance? I hate when they don't have pet insurance " to which the Staff member mentioned " she's still in there". It was truly unprofessional and disappointing. Especially since I was there to make sure my pup was healthy & safe

Dr. Chahal was very caring and compassionate as were all the staff there. Our own vet (of 20 plus years and 4 dogs/cats) wouldn't squeeze us in for an urgent visit. Dr. Chahal took us in and after lab tests/xrays we found he needed surgery so he stayed late and provided our dog with life saving surgery. He was there until well past midnight monitoring our dog. After that we switched our care here and have not been disappointed. This was over a year ago, I'm just sorry I didn't write a comment sooner.

My first time here and this place is a savior. What I thought was a little injury to his foot turned out to be an infection that spread to all of his paws that required surgery. They did the procedure the same day and now Buddies quality of life will be greatly improved. Thank you.

I have been here multiple times with multiple dogs for routine check ups, mail trimmings and emergency care. The most recent which was about a week ago I brought one of my chihuahua in because she seemed to be very constipated. I checked her, moved her around, sort of a pre visit examination myself, just to determine that it wasn’t a let or hip injury. She did not have any issue there so I assumed it was constipation. I brought her in to have her examined to determine the cause of her discomfort. The vet came in and did the exact same “exam” that I did and came to the same conclusion, except her exam lasted all of 30 seconds. She said they needed to do x-rays, blood test, pancreatitis tests and hook her up to an IV and would return with the estimate. I used scratch pay for all of the other visits so I wasn’t terribly worried about the cost. She comes back with an estimate of just shy of $1200 just for the tests alone. Scratch pay did not approve my loan request, even though I had paid off 6 loans totaling over $8000 within the last 3 years so I told the vet that I could not afford the treatment. I rejected the treatment and as I was leaving they said there was an exam fee, $70 for a 30 second exam where the vet just squeezed my dogs stomach a couple times. This place only cares about money as many other reviews have stated. I will never be back here again.
