How to Save Money at Midtown Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From the very first call to our final follow-up check, the staff at Midtown Veterinary have been impeccably comforting, courteous, and helpful! We’re traveling from out of state and had a small emergency and are so grateful to have been able to be treated by Dr. Hila and team. They know what they’re doing and show compassion. I trust their recommendations and am happy to report that our girl’s eye is all better now

I've had my ups and downs here. But so far they have been super helpful and lovely! Thank you Danielle! Always cheerful and knows her ways! I can say, I have two dogs, a male Dr. looked at my husky w/ more attention/thoughtfully than my mixed husky.. I was pretty upset about that. All dogs should be looked at evenly and probably more if mixed.. this is still a great vet. I will speak up in person, if I do not feel up too par being serviced here. Again, Thank You all employees, super lovely !

Everyone was friendly and patient with my questions. I especially appreciated Dr. Martonovich's recommendation that I switch from liquid Clavamox (from SAGE Redwood City) to chewable tablets which I could give him in his food. Much easier & more reliable. The veterinarian and staff have kept in close touch because Prince is having some problems with the healing process. They are committed to his welfare (and mine), and I want to make it clear that they are taking excellent care of an older dog with some serious dental problems. I am 100% satisfied.

I moved to the Bay Area two years ago and every visit since has been a progressively worse experience. They are under staffed, have very inconvenient hours and don’t return voicemails left to make appointments. Even though the risk of Covid is diminished (post vaccines) every visit I’ve been told I can not come in with my dog. To make this appointment I had to call four times to get a hold of someone and when I showed up for it nobody answered the phone. I waited twenty minutes and nobody came outside either so I left. They called back after an hour to reschedule and explain that they are understaffed, cutting hours and that one of the Veterinarians had left the practice. I was told I could knock next time if no one answers. *Important for later. I decided to give them a second chance. Today I pulled up for my dogs rescheduled vaccine appointment. I saw a customer leave the interior and drive away with their dog. I’m not sure the reason why the person who came to take our dog inside was acting in this manner. We had a few questions and clarifications to make before our dog got their vaccines. They kept interrupting to say the opposite of what we wanted to happen medically. They were clearly in a rush and it inspired zero confidence in us. They took my card inside for payment at the start of the visit which was also strange and out of the norm. When they brought my dog back outside I was told about how things went and to give them a call if my dog starts to throw up or have diarrhea. I asked if I should leave a voice mail if they don’t answer and was told no. I should call an animal hospital. I almost laughed out loud due to their calls answered ratio. Miffed that I have always been told I can’t come inside with my pet, I called after the appointment. No body answered the phone. I went up to the door and knocked till the receptionist (sitting at the desk - not answering the phone) waved me inside. I asked if we can come inside for appointments now and they said they just started this past month, acting like it was a weird question when everything including multiple signs and phone conversations have indicated that I have to stay in the car. The signs are still outside which is manipulative. You would also think that this would have been communicated when I had to reschedule because no body came outside to get my dog. Very frustrating and confusing experience overall and I don’t think I’ll be going back after these poor experiences. The quality of customer care that anxious dog owners receive is so off putting that it’s impossible to ignore.

We are very happy to have Midtown Veterinary Hospital as part of our community, knowing that they are always there all day and late nights in case there are emergencies. Dr. Arman is very caring of the animals, and always spends the time to explain the situation and options patiently. The nurses and technicians are super helpful and professional. I can trust them to take well care of our dog. Thank you so much!
