How to Save Money at Prairie Creek Animal Hospitals

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently purchased my first puppy, and didn't know of the expenses he was going to create. He wasn't fixed and he had all of his dewclaws. I looked for places that would take care of these issues for a reasonable price and still do a great job (please note, I am a college student). A friend of a friend referred me to Prairie Creek Animal Hospital. They took my dog in, gave him a flea bath, up to date shots, checked for foxtails, and his surgeries, all for a very good price. They did an OUTSTANDING job, and my puppy was very happy. They also gave me antibiotics and flea medicine, and, a week later, called to check up on my puppy. I am very pleased with their services and hospitality. If any other issues arise, I will be bringing my animals back to this wonderful vet.

Prairie Creek Animal Hospital used to be the best in the valley. For many years I had brought my animals there and had received the best care. As of March 2013, that has changed. Even though PCAH is the closest animal clinic to my home, I'll avoid it until I find the whoever is running it has grown up. Keep your animals safe, go to any other vet in the area. The woman that owns it is not a Vet. She is conniving and unprofessional. She will lie to your face with a smile on her's and she is unreliable. She has stated that she has two new vets coming to work there, but ... She has told people that she is closed because of septic problems, but there has been no machinery there to fix the septic and it has been two weeks. All of her staff has left her and there is no qualified person there to work with any animals. I have repeatedly tried to get my records for my pets from her, but am provided with only empty promises or people that are seen inside the premises refusing to come to the door. How childish? It is your choice. They will no longer be my vet. To bad as I've used them for twenty years.

Called prior to the visit, said it cost $44 to see what was wrong with our dog, then they leave and come back with a Estimate for almost $1400, Explained my credit wasn't good enough for the PetCare credit, not willing to worth with me at all, wanted to charge for each test separate and send out lab work to another facility they do a single thing to help an innocent animal because my credit score isn't perfect, Sorry to say these "Veterinarians" care about nothing more then pulling every dime they can out of you before even treating your pet. The main reason i bothered to post this review is the Vet herself was in the back room laughing and i heard her say "Tell them Bye then, if he Can't afford it tell him to leave" How unprofessional and disrespectful can a Animal Physician honestly be when the are this careless, thinking it's funny to say things like that not caring if the pet owner who's Trying to save their pet can't just slap down $1400. again, when i called prior, they said they will see what's wrong for the $44. That's just to let you sit in the room before they show you all the Real costs to do Anything to actually treat your pet. Extortionate costs and Disrespectful Vet's for what is Advertised as a pet friendly valley clinic, Sickening.

I am glad that her karma finally caught up with her! Good bye and good riddance. My little Gracie Faye almost lost her life because of a misdiagnosed condition by 2 of her "Vets". Thank goodness we found Dr. Sullivan at Country Corners Veterinarian Hospital. She saved Gracie Faye's life!

I made an appt with Prairie Creek Animal Hospital on Loma Rica Road in Marysville, CA over a week ago to have 2 kittens and a cat spayed. I showed up for my scheduled appointment, but NO ONE from this place was here. After waiting over 30 minutes, I called their number and I received a message that this business was closed and that they don't plan on reopening until August 1st. This was going to be my first dealings with this business and after this it's going to be the last. As far as I am concern, it isn't good business to schedule an appointment with someone and then not call this customer to let them know their business is going to be CLOSED!!! They didn't even attempt to call me! I have an answering machine on my phone, no message! It shows that their business ethics are non existant and I have doubts about having them care for my babies!
