How to Save Money at Marysville Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Too busy to help us in an emergency. Wish I could rate less then 1 star. Thanks for absolutely nothing at all. In the response below they actually defend their position. Are you serious? You're listed as a veterinary HOSPITAL, AND you answered the phone (on a weekend) but offered no help. Not even a referral. The person that answered the phone was rude and uncaring. You care nothing about the animals. You're just in it for the money. That makes you despicable human beings. I hope your car has a catastrophic engine failure when you're in the middle of nowhere and on your way to something very important to you.

I took a beautiful puppy my longtime friend brought over to my home that looked looked like my fiancee's dogs. We couldn't find the owners so we brought him to Marysville Veterinary. They were quick to help me insofar as a general checkup and gave him all the needed vaccinations. I felt comfortable in there as the front desk people were friendly and the people who had their pets there so it's obvious this is an excellent place for all to bring their pups and older dogs or whatever pets you may own... Go Marysville Veterinary!

This is Michael Jackson. He's the last of a litter of 6. We've had him since he was 48 hours old. Took him to see Dr. Powers yesterday as she's the only vet we've had for several years now. She's truly an angel 😇💖 Very sensitive to every need, willing to spend however much time it takes to answer all your questions and as bright as the Alabama stars at night! We will continue to take all of our animals to see Dr. Powers and it's an excellent visit every time! Thank you Marysville Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Powers for all the help, love and support. Highly recommend to everyone!

Marysville Veterinary Hospital has been so wonderful with our furbabies over the years. They have always provided kind, helpful support to us and have been amazing during the routine care of our 4 cats. Over the past six months, we've had many visits with them, and I cannot adequately express how grateful we are to Dr. Graves and the team for the gentle end-of-life care they provided for our elderly cats Pheobe and Phelix. We could not be happier with the choice we made to call MVH our pets' health provider and will continue to do so for years to come.

Best vets in yuba County! We don't trust anyone else with the care of our beloved pets. Our entire family uses their services for their pets.. We have been clients since the CAMP fire in 2018. The staff is amazing and courteous. They really care about our pets well-being. We had an Elderly cat when we first started taking our pets here and she passed away about a year after at age 17. The staff was very supportive and helpful to us. We have her remains in a beautiful cedar urn with her photo and a very nice engraving. The cost was extremely reasonable and we received her back in short time. The loss of a pet is never easy and especially when they have been a part of your family for so long but they were amazing and helpful. We are leaving California soon and will greatly miss them. I would definitely recommend them above all other veterinarians in the area!
