How to Save Money at Bear Valley Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Folks are nice enough but don’t plan on doing anything else the day you bring your pet here. Our Golden Retriever needed one ear cleaned and a shot for allergies. Still waiting in the lobby and it’s almost been 4 hours and we had an appointment. Maybe it’s because Dr. Velasco is on vacation??

i wish i could give this place zero stars! i had a appointment with Dr Anderson and she was the worst. my dog was really sick, literally on the verge of dying (she tested negative for parvo) and i was told by Dr Anderson that if i didn’t get more tests done which was over $2000 in JUST tests not including any medicine or any guarantee that the tests would show what was wrong with my dog; She told me to put down my dog if i couldn’t afford it and i sat there and cried for the rest of the appointment. This place is money hungry and i do not recommend any pet owners to this place. Dr Anderson, do better. By the way, all my dog needed was electrolytes. She is now striving living her best life. Here’s a couple pictures of my little fur baby now🫶🏼

From the day we made our appointment to get my boy Coco fixed we received top notch customer service. The staff was very clear in going over the procedure and answered all of our questions. They were also very friendly and kind to Coco. The day of the procedure everything went as explained and expected, in by 9 out by 5. No complications and my boy is almost 100% just one week later. Thank you to everyone at Bear Valley Animal Hospital for your hard work and dedication to treating our loved ones.

So far very very good. They are busy, really busy but most vets up here are. They are attentive and the doctor actually sees you every time. I have a dog that was diagnosed with diabetes recently and they are very informative and helpful. Dr. Nicole is probably the best vet I have had in years. The wait times can be improved but with the resources in the HD I think they are doing pretty good. I have not had a bad experience so far.

Our Boxapoint wasn't acting like himself, so I looked for a vet in the surrounding area because I wasn't too happy with the other vets I took him to before. I found Bear Valley Animal Hospital in maps and was pleased with the reviews, so I gave them a call. Made an appointment for the following week. The parking lot is a little cramped for my taste, so I decided to park on the service road that runs in front of the place. I checked him in and waited about twenty minutes to be called back. Dr. Anderson was really kind and listened to everything I had to say regarding our big boy's symptoms. The staff was gentle and loving when handling my boy. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and unfortunately he declined rapidly, so we decided to let him go. Again, the staff was very kind and patient with us, allowing us to have as much time with him as we could before we had to say goodbye. Even thought it was a heartbreaking diagnosis, the staff at Best Valley Animal Hospital was very professional, kind and great to deal with. We will be taking our other fur family members here for their vet needs.
