How to Save Money at Eye Care for Animals - Gilbert
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We have taken our dogs here for years and have always received excellent care. Currently we have 2 dogs with eye issues one of which lost an eye in an accident and requires special attention to protect her remaining eye. Recently they have responded to my urgent need for an apt. 2 times within minutes and worked her in to provide treatment within a few hours. Unbelievable responsiveness and we deeply appreciate the doctors and staff for that. These folks are the very best!!!

I can’t say enough good things about Eye Care for Animals. Dr. Cochrane is the most caring, detailed, thorough, trustworthy doctor I’ve ever met. He takes such excellent care of my dog Milo every visit and performed two perfect enucleation surgeries on him. You can tell he genuinely cares and it shows during every encounter. I also want to highlight how fantastic the front desk staff, and vet assistants are as well! Everyone is so kind and always makes sure to address any questions or concerns I have. I’m so appreciative that my 9 year old dog is well taken care of here and is getting puppy energy back after being in pain/discomfort for so long.Thank you all!!

Our kitten had an eye condition that appeared to be cured by the Emergency Hospital by the time he got to Eye Care. But when it flared up again, they reviewed the case, asked for pics, and treated it quickly. I am so grateful. They've been on top of it, between the 2 vets.

I called Eye Care for Animals office regarding a follow up appointment and I spoke Lauren this morning. I was in a panic because I lost my preplanned mode of transportation. She was so kind and she helped me reschedule and made it work out for me in a way that it was just amazing. She is the kindest, most professional, sweet and patient person and I would highly recommend this practice just for that reason alone. I will add a follow up review once I have the visit, but for today I really just wanted to thank Lauren and let everyone know what an amazing experience I had today.

Dr. Zack Cochrane is great. I brought my dog, Pepper, in about a year ago as I was told with DNA testing when she was a pup that she had the markers for PPL (Primary Lens Luxation) which had a high probably she would have it, usually setting in between 4 - 8 yrs. At 5 yrs I noticed a difference in how her eyes looked at night, they reflected differently, and I knew I needed to take her for a checkup to see if the PLL had started. My appt with Dr Cochrane went well. He was able to quickly confirm that her lenses had, in fact, started to slip, but were only at 40%. Unfortunately (fortunately?), he also was able tell that she also had glaucoma and her eye pressures were very high. Immediately he prescribed 2 types of eyedrops to help reduce the pressure in her eyes and to constrict her pupils to help keep the slipping lens in place behind the iris/pupil. He was very thorough in his exam and was up front and honest about the fact that my girl probably, at some point, would go blind and may even need to have her eye(s) removed. I was heartbroken but thankful for having a diagnosis and a route to take to help her. On a good note, she just had her 1-year checkup and her eye pressure has been stable and within a very healthy range (considering her diagnosis) and we are now on a "maintenance" schedule where she is stable enough to continue to have 6-month check-ups and remain on the same prescription going forward. The staff at Eye Care for Animals in Gilbert are all very caring, professional, and so gentle and patient with my girl. The front desk staff was quick to get me signed in and the vet assistant was so sweet and gentle. If there is any caveat, it is the pricing. BUT, this is a specialist and you're paying for their expertise in their field. My vet couldn't diagnose PLL in their office and didn't think to test for glaucoma... Both of these were instantly diagnosed, confirmed, and treated, and I am thankful for it. I will save the extra money to know my girl is getting the best care and, if/when the time comes for surgery, I will know she's in caring and capable hands.
