How to Save Money at Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists - Gilbert

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We rescue cats and several of them have had stomatitis. We love going to AZ Veterinary Dental Specialists to see Dr. Michael Balke because we know our kitties will be in great hands. Everyone on staff is super friendly and they treat our fur babies like celebrities. They’re organized, explain the services, give timely updates, and follow-up. Dental procedures can be pricey, but it’s important to us that our kitties get great care. We’ll continue seeing Dr. Balke for all our kitty dental needs.

I highly recommend!! The staff and Dr. Balke were amazing. He did such an amazing job of explaining the procedure and outcome of having a partial mandelectoby on our mini schnauzer Fiona. He was generally empathetic and was very passionate about caring for our pet from start to finish. I was told he is 1 out of 30 oral maxillary surgeon's in the US with the subject expertise and training. I had a great deal of anxieties before and after the surgery but everything went amazing. Our dog is healing quite nicely after just a few weeks. So impressed and if you are in search of an amazing oral surgeon please visit them. Thank you Dr. Balke and Star and anyone I may have missed.

My wife and I recently brought our labradoodle in for extensive oral surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, and from start to finish, Dr. Balke and his team were outstanding. Dr. Balke took the time to clearly explain the procedure, answer all our questions, and make sure we felt completely informed and comfortable. The office staff, especially Star, went above and beyond, following up multiple times to check on our dog’s recovery and offering a level of care and compassion that truly stands out. Thanks to Dr. Balke, our dog now has a much better quality of life for his remaining years, and we are beyond grateful. Highly recommend this clinic to anyone seeking exceptional veterinary care.

Our young lab had a discolored tooth. A vet (whose opinion we respect) suggested it might have to be extracted but it was a canine tooth and we had concerns. They suggested we consult with Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists in Gilbert. Making the appointment was a breeze with Alexa being very helpful and we were able to get in within a week. Because we'd been told a root canal might be involved we scheduled that on the same day. Check in and initial intake was quick and easy with the staff being very personable. Dr. Mike Balke examined our dog and proposed the root canal while explaining the procedure, an estimate was provided. Throughout the day Alexa or Dr. Balke either texted or called letting us know when our boy was going in for imaging, that he was a good candidate for the root canal, when he was going in for the procedure and when he was waking up. All reports were accompanied by reassurances that our boy was doing well. When it was time for pick up, Dr. Balke very thoroughly went through the images, explaining slight nuances and the root canal. Aftercare instructions were clearly presented and all of our questions were answered. Later in the evening Dr. Balke checked in with us to see how our boy was doing (he was sleepy but great, just as Dr. Balke told us he would be.) We only have positive things to say about our experience with Alexa, Dr. Balke, and other staff at Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists in Gilbert their care of our boy exceeded our expectations.

I recently brought my senior boxer in to have a pretty extensive oral surgery done to remove his gingival hyperplasia and possible tumors. I was a bit nervous as we had had this surgery done twice before with his primary vet and he had irregular heartbeats during the surgery and both times the growths came back, even worse than the time before. From beginning to end, Dr. Malott was amazing. He took his time explaining the surgery and answering all of my questions. I am so impressed that only 3 days later my old man is acting normal and eating well. The office staff followed up multiple times to make sure he was ok, and provided a level of service that all should strive for. Dr. Malott has given my pup the chance to have a better quality of life throughout the remainder of his years and for that I thank him. Highly recommend.
