How to Save Money at Waco Animal Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Me and my cat, Prince, came here last night after worries that he might have a urinary blockage. Upon arrival, Prince was seen very quickly and got worked on almost immediately. He did end up have a urinary blockage and had to have surgery right away. They were very transparent about everything that was needed and also the financial aspect of Prince’s care. I am very happy with the level of care that was taken with our situation. God bless each and everyone one of your staff members.🤍

When we took our 12 year old lab, Cabela, to the clinic at 10pm, it was a hard 1hr drive to Waco knowing what was going to happen. We knew it needed to be done, & we were willing to do it because we genuinely loved our sweet girl. The poor girl couldn’t even walk to the truck. The staff at the Waco Animal Emergency Clinic were absolutely amazing. They were kind & considerate of what we were going through & doing for our family dog. They were so sweet to her & to us. They came out with a gurney and helped us get her inside. They gave her love and lots of petting, even getting a tail wag out of her. Not only were they amazing then, but when I went today to pick her up I cried all over again in the car. They saved a paw print just for us. For our family. I wasn’t expecting that in the bag. On top of that, the box is beautiful & the card is so sweet. They truly did an outstanding job in such an awful situation. I cannot express how thankful I am. 🤍🥺

Our cat got a very nasty gash on a Saturday morning, so our vet was not open. Waco Animal Emergency Clinic was great on seeing and treating him. They were very clear on pricing before any treatment, which I appreciated. Once he was cleared by his normal vet for no cone, he promptly did the same thing on a holiday. We did not hesitate to take him back to WAEC for treatment again because of the wonderful care we received the first visit. I’m happy to say my cat has seemed to learn and has not needed any further emergency care.

Have brought my pets here twice now for emergencies and the staff are just incredibly kind. I was there for my senior kitty who had cardiac problems and the staff helped me make informed choices by giving me lots of options and explaining things very thoroughly. Of course we were sad our kitty was sick, but these folks really helped us understand the options and we felt the care was very individualized. Thank you to our vet, Brock Griffin, our amazing tech Tara, and the very kind receptionist Hannah. The office had lots of resources and kept us informed while we waited for test results too. Will always trust these guys with our pets in a pinch.

We came in on a Sunday, our senior dog of 14 years was ready to crossover. Dr. HABERMAN & another wonen (did not get her name), took care of us the whole time. This was the best experience we could of asked for. They were so attentive, did not rush us, and allowed myself, my husband, and two year old to spend all the time with our girl. It was a hard and sad day, but they were so great through the process and we are very thankful for that.
