How to Save Money at MedVet Dallas

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Sadly, we had to bring our dog Izzie here as a final option to figure out what was going on. Unfortunately, we did have to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye, but the staff was truly amazing. They explained all of our options in a way we could understand and clearly broke down the pricing for everything. Everyone was so kind and understanding of our situation. When we made the decision, we never felt rushed. They have a peaceful, private room where you can say your goodbyes, which meant so much to us during such a difficult time. We greatly appreciated their compassion and care.

Excellent care! We waited to see the veterinarian about 30 minutes but it was well worth the wait! She was professional, knowledgeable, and fabulous in every way pertaining to getting my 6 yr old Cavapoo diagnosed,, treated and referred to the appropriate specialist. I highly recommend MedVet-Dallas.

We’ve been coming here since fall of 2023 due to my doggie having seizures. The neurologist we had the first time was the one who diagnosed him and she ended up moving. But the doctor we have now is wonderful too ! Actually the entire staff is amazing. Especially the neurology department. Thank you for taking care of my baby. If it wasn’t for you guys we would’ve been without him . Now he can look forward to being ten years old next year!!

First off let me state that I appreciate all of the staff Congo and I interacted with. I have never had any issues with my pup and Congo is 5-6 year old Staffordshire rescue that was pretty much about to be put down until I came along. Recently some time around 10/21-10/23 he was bitten by what I suspect was probably a Copperhead which I DID NOT EVEN CONSIDER until I brought him to MedVet. Thanks to a thorough exam we ruled out what I originally thought was the problem. He was breaking out in hives severely and was having some low energy and on the night on 10/23 I noticed what I thought might have been a reaction to insect an insect bite was actually not that at all. I mean from how quick they answered the call and how quick they offered options and the sympathy I was provided over the phone was the reason I chose them for my emergency visit. We live in the Lake Highland are where wildlife is almost unavoidable especially on long walks. The triage was smooth even with Congo being rambunctious and on high alert they were very friendly towards him and catered to him with the upmost compassion. I won’t lie we were there 4-5 hrs but after seeing the care they gave Congo I understood why. Every pet that walks through there gets the same amount of care so please be patient. I would rather do this 100 times than to go one day without my Congo. As far as pricing they were very direct with how much to expect to pay they will navigate with what you request and give their recommendations. Times are hard for allot of people so I get sometimes these expenses can be very discouraging I racked in a $700 bill but it was thorough blood work I could of denied some of the treatments if I didn’t want them so make sure to voice what you want before they do it when they come in the room. Again to me my pup is my life and it could of been 7000 and I still would of paid luckily I brought him in on time and as I write this Congo is in his kennel resting he’s been getting better there’s less swelling no more hives and he’s getting better by the hour. We got an accurate diagnosis and believed it was a snake that hit him and the meds recommended by the staff are clearly doing their job. Ask for clarity if you don’t know this staff is beyond patient and I’m sure this will help the person seeking emergency care. Thank you MedVet for saving my dogs life I was happy to return the favor to Congo for having saved mines and I appreciate you guys for giving me the opportunity to rerun that favor for my pup.

So interesting how reviews of vet places vary so much. Unfortunately I had to go to three facilities in less than 1 week and VEG ER and MedVet were both fantastic! Unfortunately we still had to put our sweet Kora down but the vet at MedVet did a great job trying to save her. I know humans and dogs are not the same but I'm a human doctor and I know the work that went into trying to keep our Kora alive and reverse the downhill spiral she was in with acute renal failure on top of idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura. She was only 5 years old so this was completely unexpected! Dr. Capaldo, their internal medicine vet is highly competent! And then after it was all over, in less than a week, we got the absolute sweetest card from their staff!!
