How to Save Money at Cornerstone Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve had such a great experience with this clinic! Their e-communications are excellent — they send clear, timely reminders for scheduling and appointments, which made keeping up with our pet’s care so easy. Dr. Eleazar Castro is wonderful — kind, patient, and truly cares about his patients and their owners. Every visit felt thorough and personal. One of my favorite memories is when they took Bluebell’s picture as a puppy in front of a holiday display, printed it out, and gave it to us. We still have it hanging up! It’s such a sweet example of how thoughtful and engaged their team is. We’re sad to leave after moving, but this clinic truly deserves recognition. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for a compassionate, dependable vet!

I want to make an edit to this review. I am not going to change the rating or the text but I want to add some followup. After the post, the Mgr reached out to me and we had a very productive discussion about my frustrations. She actively listened and acknowledged the mistakes made in the process and offered to make me whole. Following the discussion - Inhave decided that I will continue to use their services. *** Original Post *** I had a very frustrating experience here. I brought my dog in for grooming last week when I picked him up he seemed a little stressed and when I got him home after about 15 minutes I noticed blood all over the floor and some of our carpets. I then noticed that he was bleeding from his paw. After several hours of close monitoring it wasn’t stopping and I had to take him to the emergency vet to get the issue addressed. The next morning I sent pics to the grooming team and shared my frustration. They apologized and shared that this happens occasionally and offered a free bath on my next visit. However, the manager then shared that they knew his foot was bleeding and had treated it before turning him over to me. At this point I became even more frustrated and asked them why they had not shared that piece of info with me when I picked him up? Their answer was - we don’t have time to tell every person when this happens - which I find to be completely ridiculous. So, I am out $75 for the emergency vet visit, two of my rugs have blood stains, I missed a family dinner and my dog was traumatized because you couldn’t take 15 secs to let me know I should keep an eye on his paw? Unacceptable.

Charlie has received great care from the Cornerstone staff, from the excellent veterinarians and techs to the grooming staff. The staff has supported Charlie's humans, too, talking us through all of the issues Charlie has had. With almost 10 years of care for Charlie and an additional 10 years for our first pet Bailey, we strongly support and recommend Cornerstone Animal Clinic. Thank you for care.

I have been a client of Cornerstone Animal Clinic for approximately 32 years. Dr. Escobedo and Dr. Morse are the loves of my life. I have taken my dogs there and every time that there has been an illness or a serious diagnosis, they have been right on the money. I would trust no one other that Dr. E and Dr. Morse. I recommend them to everyone on Next-door who is looking for a veterinarian. Even the Emergency Clinic on Central Expressway where I have had to visit a few times has been wonderful helping me resolve whatever medical malady that I have faced. I could never recommend anyone else other than this team.

My Goldendoodle is a GOAT. Yes, she is the Greatest of All Time but I know she is part Goat as she will eat ANYTHING. Unfortunately her last culinary adventure ended up with an object lodging in her intestine which required surgery. I am so grateful for Cornerstone, Dr. Morse and the wonderful support team. Dr. Morse was kind, patient and incredibly skilled. The surgery went smoothly and my 11yr old Mia is recovering nicely. I can't say enough about this organization; Dr. Morse, the front and back teams and ALWAYS my Grooming Rock Stars (Sarah and Amy) who treat Mia with so much love. Thank you all. Patricia
