How to Save Money at Animal Care Group of Lake Oswego

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We lost our home in one of the CA wildfires & decided to move to a cooler, wetter clime. After having lived in our former home for over 30 years, it's been tough finding new everythings! One of our biggest challenges has been finding a new vet. We tried out 2 others that failed miserably, before being referred to ACGLO. From the first phone call for an appointment to the final update on my cat's condition, the service was perfection! Despite not being an established patient, I was able to get an appt. first thing the next morning. The woman who answered the phone was very caring, and just the tone of her voice reassured me. At the appt., I was offered a pheromone-infused towel to cover my cat carrier, which immediately stopped my cat's loud protests. Dr. Allie considered my input, and provided excellent care. I was very impressed by the follow-up calls I received. All the staff I interacted with was friendly & helpful. When I had to return the next day for an additional treatment, there was no charge for the visit, just for the treatment. Additionally, they offered to let me wait in my car and bring my pet to me, which I appreciated cus' he's a bit of a chunk. Oh, and they offer coffee/tea to me, and treats to my cat (despite the fact he's, as already stated, a lil' chunky). I'm very happy & relieved to have found our family vet!

The entire team at Animal Care Group of Lake Oswego has been so patient and kind with our Louie boy. The care we have received has been a drastic improvement from our previous care at another clinic during the pandemic. Louie can be reactive to vet visits and the providers at ACG have been so welcoming and patient. Thank you to all the vets who have given him care for his leg, tail, and our most recent annual visit which was the least stressful visit we’ve ever had! I’d recommend their care to anyone with fur babies.

Animal Care Group always goes above and beyond with their care and treatment of my pets. Their knowledge and explanation of information is wonderful and they take the time to ensure my comfort level with the information and treatment as well. Their bedside table manners are phenomenal and they treat my pets with the upmost respect as if they were their own pets. There is no one who I would trust my pets care with more than the Animal Care Group. My family has been taking our pets here for over 20 years and we will continue to do so!

Our first time at ACGLO and we were beyond happy!! The staff were very welcoming - starting from the reception area all the way through; the technician that worked with an AMAZING Dr. (Dr. Higel) was so nice, helpful, explained everything that was happening, personable, and gave some love to our fur babies. So sorry I didn't catch her name. Extremely clean facility. It was also nice to be able to take care of the bill in the exam room :-) made for less congestion at the front desk. My fur babies are not reactive to others but I can see how the process of paying w/in the exam room would be so helpful for pets that are reactive. Thanks to all !
