How to Save Money at Animal Allergy and Ear Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am very grateful for the guidance and support I have received from Dr. Randall and her team to help care for my 6 year old cat who struggles with chronic hotspots due to various allergies. Before taking my cat to Dr. Randall, other vet specialists would tell me about a variety of treatments without taking much time to investigate the underlying causes. My cats condition has improved considerably after Dr. Randall recommended a hypoallergenic cat food prescription while other vets often downplayed diet as a potential allergy. While my cat still struggles with allergies and hotspots, Dr. Randall's thoughful recommendations have allowed me to better manage her allergy flare ups and explore creative solutions that don't immediately break the bank. I also appreciate being able to text and call her team when I have questions or need to place a prescription order. Even though it can take some time to receive follow up, I always feel supported in determining what's best for my cat's condition.

Dr. Randall is a saint. We moved here years ago from the SW, and our old Aussie’s skin flared up from the change of environment. Dr. Randall took the time to listen to all of our concerns and worries on our first appointment. Don’t expect a short half-hearted visit. The clinic is throughout, detailed and precise, as is Dr. Randall. With some trial and error we figured out the best plan of action for our old girl’s skin! And she is now comfortable and happy in her skin! The clinic even helped us with our VERY REACTIVE German Shepherd-hybrid when he got a terrible ear canal hematoma during the pandemic. They were so kind to him and aware of his space - and he walked away all fixed up and comfortable with his visits (which is a huge deal for us). All in all our 16 year old Aussie wouldn’t be as happy, healthy and MOBILE as she is today without the care and support of Dr. Randall and each person at the clinic. Worth every dang penny.

Wonderful clinic and the best experience for my dog and I. My Clara is a high anxiety pup afraid of every doctor and clinic she’s ever been to. I knew this place was good when my girl jumps out of the car and wants to go in and greet the staff. She especially loves Dr Amy Randall. We have found many solutions for my dog here and hope to keep her healthy and happy for years to come.

My cat was losing fur on his back. My regular vet couldn't figure out why. I tried making changes on my end but nothing worked. I was at my wit's end with worry and frustration. Within a few visits with Dr. Randall, the issue was identified and resolved. My kitty is now back to normal! I never would have figured out the issue on my own. Thank goodness for this clinic and Dr. Randall!

Dr Randall & team are nothing short of outstanding. I knew it was a different culture there on our first visit when the tech came in & sat on the floor with my dogs. Then the doc did the same. Now, I sit on the floor when they show me into a room. My dogs have zero fear or anxiety there. The staff do their best to address the underlying issues vs only treat symptoms. They’re extremely conscientious & straightforward. I could probably find a vet derm closer to us (Vancouver WA) but its worth it to me that they get that level of care.
