How to Save Money at Dryden Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I want to give a huge and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hannah and Lyndsey for everything that they (Dryden Veterinary Services) have done for my Danny Boy. I think they have improved his life many times over. I'm Danny's 4th owner. He had lived a long life. In the winter, he had to have all of his teeth removed because they were all rotten and twisted in his mouth, and he was in so much pain and suffering. He left the clinic a new dog LOL. Happy and feeling special that he got to eat wet food! As i said, I am his fourth owner and Dr. Hannah and Lyndsey remembered the names of the past three owners all of which were related to me! It was passed closing time & I was panicking. When I called & spoke to Hannah and I told her that the dog's name was Danny Boy she immediately knew who he was! It never ceases to amaze me how well they know their clients! Every patient is special to them. Danny was not acting like himself. He had tried walking a few times late in the afternoon and collapsed completely, all fours went out from beneath him. It was hot inside because had the oven on and his thick coat was making him too hot so I managed to coax him outside and poor Danny always aimed to please, he made it outside but barely, all four legs were shaking and he fell a few times but he got outside where was a lot cooler for him. They both knew immediately who he was, he's a special dog and they remembered him well! He literally let them do anything to him, it's like he knew and trusted them to help him! I don't want to get too much into the details but Hannah and Lyndsey made things so much easier for me and Danny even managed to wag his tail when he seen Hannah, that was the most he was like himself yesterday then he had been all day. I'm not sure what happened, I think he ĺhad a stroke But anyway, they took such good care of him and I got to say goodbye to Danny. He left this world in a peaceful, calm atmosphere with three people who loved him. I don't have much in this world, I'm on disability and I am a senior citizen but one thing I know is that when it comes to our fur-babies, they deserve the very best & Dryden Veterinary Services is the best! Hannah & Lyndsey were exceptional & extremely caring. No Wonder people come from Thunder Bay, Kenora & Fort Frances just to see the Veterinarians, assistants & all the staff at DVS!!! Thank you so very much for making a very difficult evening just a little bit easier. Now comes the hard part, going back inside, cleaning out all his stuff, & facing an empty apartment. I stayed up all night, outside & inconsolable. Now the REALLY difficult times are to come, facing each day without Danny. Wendy Boudreau

Dr. Springett answered every question before we even voiced it, listed the prices of each test with each suggestions, and gave an idea of how important each test was to our personal circumstance with our cat. He made sure we did not feel guilty if we decided to forgo a certain procedure/exam/test. Our cat felt as comfortable around him as he does any adult while within his own house. The prices were absolutely fair and reasonable. Oh, and the complimentary coffee was great :) Thank you, DVS!

Max my King Charles was seen by Dr Springett for Blastomycosis and good thing they could took him in such short notice because he was in very poor shape. The technician was amazing, kind, helpful and so knowledgeable, thank you to everyone 🙏

Kind, caring, knowledgeable. I trust Dryden Veterinary Services and Dr. Springett 100%. They've been providing excellent care to my dog for a decade now and as she grows older and her health needs become more complex, I know they'll be there to help me make the best choices for her. This whole office is full of wonderful people!

Absolutely great staff and affordable. The staff were understanding and non-judgemental. My dog was getting neutered, and while he was under anesthesia they got rid of some small matt’s behind his ear that I couldn’t do myself (I was going to ask them too but forgot, so you can imagine how happy i was). On top of that I was calling a lot prior to the appointment because of anxiety and they answered every single question for me. Very thankful for the experience!!
