How to Save Money at Clinton Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Love my vet. They take good care, good recommendations, and are nice peoples. Bloody expensive but pets are expensive. I appreciate you.

I went with my closest friend Eric to put mamma to rest. A 21 year old pet cat and as unwilling as I am to let anything go especially animals, I chose to be there for my friend. At an uneasy time Clinton veterinary service made it easier to deal with as they go the extra 9 and even during this difficult time, they even turn down the lights and light a candle during the procedure. This added touch means more because they treat you as a person and not just a client or number. This goes along ways because it makes something sad, not as sad during the time of your loss.

In the last two and a half years, I've brought in five litters of puppies for their first rounds of vaccines and physical exams alone. Totalling more than $3500 - I have receipts to PROVE IT. Factor in routine care, a neuter, a spay, and a couple emergencies, my total is an eye watering, jaw dropping amount. I have never received preferential treatment, a discount, not so much as a free sample for the thousands and thousands of dollars I have spent at this clinic... Only to find out, after doing some calling around, I have been enormously and grossly over charged - 100s and 100s of dollars. I've spoken to two other vets in the county, who are a fraction of the cost, and still provide tremendous care. I brought my beloved dogs to this vet because I wanted to support a local business. At these rates, who can afford to?! At another clinic, those same $3500 puppy shots would have totalled $1350. That is a HUGE difference and in today's day and age, that kind of money matters! I'm so disappointed that I have spent so much money, only to find out, too late!, there are more reasonable options. I 100% feel taken advantage of and will not bring my animals here again nor can I recommend this clinic to anyone anymore. Conveniently located, yes Knowledgeable staff, yes. WORTH triple?? NO

Dr. Sophie was amazing. She took such great care of our timid pup. I appreciated her thorough, gentle examination and treatment of our pup’s irritated ears. The whole staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you!

My mother was a client with Clinton Vet and this is her review: I do not recommend the Clinton Vet Clinic to anyone. They were our vet for over 7 years and are ok as long as you make an appointment and can wait 1 1/2 weeks. Our dog took a turn for the worse and needed to be put down as she had no control of her back legs and was not eating. I called the clinic and was told they were too busy and suggested I find another vet. The best they could do was an appointment over a week away. Our Nellie passed away the next day and I sent an e-mail informing them of her passing. The following Monday they called to see how Nellie was doing. After sharing my story with other people, I have discovered my experience is common with this vet. In the last two weeks 3 of my friends have been told to go elsewhere, by other pet owners, who were also told Clinton Veterinary Hospital were too busy to see their pets. One owner's dog was in distress and needed to be put down. The other two were very sick dogs. They were all told to go elsewhere as they were too busy. Both the sick dogs recovered under the services of other vets that cared and were not too busy to see new clients. The only thing the Clinton Veterinary Hospital cares about is making money off of those with an appointment. With hospital in the name you would expect they would take emergency cases, especially from current clients, but you would be wrong.
