How to Save Money at Bright's Grove Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very upset with the treatment and compassion for my cat. The vet they have now comes in barely acknowledges you. Tells you your cats in pain will need surgery. Someone comes to the door of the examing room she walks out with out a word, leaving you seating there. 10 minutes later you open the door to the main lobby and the staff says what are you still doing here. So freaking rude. I explained that we were waiting because she just walked away. I asked when his surgery date would be and she acted like I was an inconvenience and her words were I guess I can do it on this date. Are you kidding me you tell me my cats in pain charge almost 2000 dollars and you can't take the time to act like you care. My cat has been going there for years. But I will never go there again. My whole family has been coming here. But we are all moving on now. Very sad. With all the vets out there this place needs an overall.

Doctor Roger was always good with my dog and I haven’t had issues before but my cat saw a different vet and had an anxiety attack on the way out after getting his shots done, instead of getting help from a worker the vet kept giving my cat his shots while he was actively moving, I had to help but it felt like he could have done a way better job, he kept trying to grab my cat while he moved and I wish he would have let me handle that part or have gotten assistance because I know how to handle my pet, my cat got smacked on the side of the counter twice like I know it’s hard but some communication on what he’d like me to do to help him would’ve been good, there was no communication he just tried and failed at grabbing my cat and put the needle in him as he moved - uncomfortable experience for me, I tried to help but if I don’t know what you are doing as a vet or the next steps I can’t help you, he should have gotten someone to help him do this :/ I understand it’s hard but my cat shouldn’t have an anxiety attack after that and that is what lead me to write this ultimately

Took my for fur baby there for the first time after moving here and can’t say enough how great the love and attention that my dog got. So nice to have a veterinarian and Brights grove so you don’t have to drive all the way into Sarnia.

I was on edge more than my pet, quick, easy, professional. Was my first visit, and my pet received her ID card.. she looks like she's not impressed, however she was treated with people who truly care. Thank you. **Update: big brother made her feel better after she got home!

AWFUL. No empathy, no personal space, no understanding or anything. I had an emergency and I had to put my cat to sleep, a staff member walked in RIGHT after he died and made us pay while we were crying, how is THAT empathetic? One of the worst parts is they were making jokes about my cats blood? They were playing a guessing game with his blood count while we waited to get the results, we heard everything. They walk in pretending to care but it doesn’t seem genuine. The staff in the front seem tone deaf, they should already know and have common sense that an animal is close to death. Just awful I don’t recommend coming here unless you truly need to in an emergency or anything like that.
