How to Save Money at Avocado Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Avocado animal hospital is the only vet I take my fur babies to. Everyone is super helpful and amazing. Samantha and Diamond were very friendly and helped me calm down and reassured me while my cat had a high fever. They also distracted me and kept the mood light as someone hit my car in the parking lot while I was attempting getting my cat checked out. After, an older woman came in yelling at the Diamond for no reason and they both handled it very well, considering the woman insisted on escalating the situation. They showed amazing professional and personal skills in the interaction. It made me feel a lot better about how they handle conflict. It was a very eventful and stressful day for me but because of these two it made the experience easier. It was by far the best service I’ve gotten from anywhere. Thank you guys for all the amazing work you all do even when outside factors make it harder. You are appreciated by someone! Also, enjoy the cute vet cat, his name is Jackson (:

want to sincerely thank the entire team at Avocado Animal Hospital for the incredible care, compassion, and dedication they showed to my dog during such a difficult time. From the very beginning, everyone treated us with kindness, empathy, and professionalism. The doctors, technicians, and staff were all amazing — attentive, patient, and always willing to explain everything and support us through the process. I truly felt that they did everything possible and beyond to help Goliat. They not only cared for him, but also gave emotional support to us as owners when we needed it the most. I am deeply grateful for everything they did, and I highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a veterinary team that genuinely cares about their patients and families.”

If I was able to give this Vet a zero i would. 2 weeks ago we had to put down are dog our best friend of 18 years I regret taking him to this place they made you feel like you just another number this office hires insensitive and careless and knowledgeable employee . We had some questions for the assistant and she was clueless she came in with an attitude a man showed up to administer the medication he came in put him to sleep he barely said word and he walked right out he was so unfriendly . I called 3 times left a message to speak to our dog Vet and no one called me back we wanted to express our concern I walk in the office and I asked for the Vet to call me and they still didn't call me back this Vet office is disturbing and they can care less of your pet .i would never recommend anyone to this place !!!

Avoid at all costs. We have been treating my cat there for a few years, he eats a specific kind of food for animals with uninary problems and they refuse to sell it to us unless we schedule a check up (in order to charge us more money) even tho the cat is fine and he has been seen by the doctor there before, it is nothing but a money grabbing technique. The lady over the phone was extremely rude and condescending. Very poor costumer service skills. We are now looking for a new vet, and fortunately we found the food elsewhere, these people were willing to let my cat STARVE unless we paid for an overpriced check up in order to get access to his food. Crazy…people like this don’t care about your pets, they only care about their pockets.
