Animal Emergency Hospital DeLand

I brought my dog in for shortness of breathe and an inability to walk. They brought out a gurney to the car and helped get her comfortable. She was swiftly bright back. Within 15 minutes the Dr was speaking with us. Unfortunately my dog had to be euthanized. Everyone was professional and caring. I can’t imagine what they all have to deal with everyday, a lot of heartbreak, but they show up day in and day out. For that I’m grateful. They don’t get enough praise. Thank you for what you do.

Today my heart is filled with gratitude. ❤️ I want to give a huge thank you to the incredible team at the Animal Emergency Hospital in DeLand. When Buster's bladder ruptured due to a urinary obstruction caused by stones, they acted quickly and did everything possible to save his life. From the amazing staff to the compassionate doctor, everyone went above and beyond with such skill, kindness, and dedication. Because of your swift care and tireless efforts, Buster was given a second chance. There are no words to truly express how thankful I am for everything you did for my sweet boy. You treated him like he was your own, and I'll never forget it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for saving Buster. We are forever grateful. ❤️🐾

I've been a pet owner for all of my 73 years. Over that time, I have had 25 dogs, 10 cats and three horses, so I am no stranger to emergency pet clinics, whether in Colorado, California or Florida. My recent visit to the Animal Emergency Hospital in DeLand made me proud to live in a community where such a state-of-the-art facility is available for those unforeseen animal issues. The staff seemed very young (at this stage of my game, everyone IS young), but I've never met a more compassionate, professional group of employees. From the front-desk folks, to the technicians to my attending vet, Dr. Lauren Kuzimski, they were completely caring and competent. I am not surprised that there are those providing Google reviews here who are not so complimentary. The cost of emergency animal care can be a shock to the system and bank account. The unfortunate truth, especially in these difficult financial times, is sometimes you have to make hard choices. Losing a beloved friend is always devastating. But for the staff to stay so focused and positive in the face of people and pets who are experiencing trauma is a testament to this clinic. It's also amazingly clean, offers a comfortable area to await results and there's nothing the staff won't do to try and make you feel welcome and comforted in your time of need. I, for one, give the Animal Emergency Hospital an A+. And while I hope never to have to go there again, it is wonderful to know that it's there should I need it. Thanks for taking such good care of my Shaka and making her better again.

If I could give this place a negative 1000, I would. I waited days before writing this to be sure I wasn’t speaking out of emotion. If you love your pet, DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. They shouldn't be called a hospital. They should be called an animal funeral home. On 6/1/2026 around 7 AM, I noticed my 5 week old kitten was weak and low on energy. The Animal Emergency Hospital in Deland was the closest option. I rushed her there. When I arrived, I was told the exam would be $105 (no problem). After taking her to the back, they came out and told me it would cost $850–$1,000 to treat her and even with the treatment there was no guarantee. They then gave me an “alternative option”. They suggested I put her down. I refused both and said I wanted to take my kitten home. Suddenly, my $105 bill jumped to $288 because they claimed they had given her oxygen (all within 30 minutes of the visit). I agreed to pay, but then the veterinarian came in the room and told me my kitten was “struggling to breathe,” “in pain,” and would “not make it through the day.” The veterinarian then told me her condition was “rapidly declining and fatal." She offered to pay out of her own pocket to put my kitten down “to stop her suffering.” I told her that if she was absolutely certain my kitten was dying, I would sign the euthanasia paperwork. As I began signing, the receptionist told me I would have to take my kitten’s body home with me. That was the moment I stopped filling out the paperwork. I told them taking her lifeless body is emotionally traumatizing and I would rather take her home alive. They continue to ask me multiple times in multiple emotionally manipulating ways to let them put my kitten down. The red flags at that point was everywhere. I told them I wanted my kitten back. The vet then told me I was banned from the hospital for “going against doctor’s orders.” I said that was fine and left. I was in that death hospital for about 2 hrs. On the drive home, my daughter rubbed our kitten’s belly. Our kitty started perking up. By the time we got home (30 minutes after leaving that hospital), she had more energy. We gave her water, love, and attention. By noon, she was playing, jumping, and acting like herself again. The same kitten they insisted would die that day was suddenly full of energy. The only issue Lux had was "GAS" and she needed to poop. Our Lux just needed her tummy rubbed, some water, and love. If I had ignored my instincts, my kitten would have been murdered by this hospital that same day. So I’ll say it again: If you love your pet, DO NOT BRING THEM TO THIS PLACE (not even for a cup of water). I would like to add we called the hospital back to inquire on how the vet came up with her diagnosis because it was false. The office manager spoke in circles. We received terrible customer service, terrible patient care, and a false diagnosis. I am leaving this review to save the next person from possible heartache. I’m including a photo of Lux playing with her brother (Lux is the black and white kitten). The picture was taken 1 day after the false claims they made about her health.

I can't share enough the care, professionalism, communication, and understanding of everyone here. They have taken the best care of my dog. He is on his way to a speedy recovery due to care, compassion, and detailed treatment. They helped me emotionally and gave me the guidance needed to continue the care for my dog Rex. I don't know what outcome I would of had had I not been directed to their care.
