How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Banfield Pet Hospital in Coral Gables today. My dog had two episodes of diarrhea and three episodes of vomiting that morning. Although she was still drinking water and did not appear critically ill to me, I was concerned enough to seek prompt veterinary evaluation. I arrived shortly after opening (around 10 a.m.), and there was only one other client present. The front desk staff declined to have my dog evaluated, stating they were understaffed. When I checked the Banfield app while standing there, multiple appointment slots were available for that same location. I scheduled one immediately and showed the availability to the staff, yet I was told that Dr. Evelin Delgado was declining to see my dog and that I needed to go elsewhere. What is most troubling is not simply being turned away, but being denied an assessment despite active gastrointestinal symptoms and apparent appointment availability. Pet owners seek veterinary care because they are worried and trying to do the right thing for their animals. Being dismissed without evaluation and redirected elsewhere was frustrating, distressing, and unacceptable. I expected clearer communication, transparency about scheduling limitations, and at minimum a clinical assessment or explanation. This experience significantly undermined my trust in this location.

This place should not be allowed to exist. I canceled my wellness program after so many times trying to find a solution for my cat. They did all the test and they couldn’t figure it out. Then they did a lab test on my dog and they lost the test results it took a month to get them. The manager I think her name is Carolina needs to leave. Their excuse is that the DR.was on vacation or PTO. They are a hot mess. Lesson learned never again!

My 1.5-year-old pup was spayed here a week ago and did wonderfully. This location takes the time to answer every question and concern while providing top-tier advice and care. Even though this Pet Hospital is much farther from us, it’s absolutely worth the drive knowing our little one is in such great hands. A big thank you to the ladies at the front desk for doing such a wonderful job as well!

🐾We Love the Team @BanfieldCoralGables Personally, I have always had a positive report with everyone at this location. They really care, never do unnecessary things and always take care of pets first. Thank you so much to the staff, Vet-techs, Nurses, and Dr. Crespi. My puppy has been in a number of times and has always recovered wonderfully. I'm sad that I cannot take this team with me as I am moving out of state. You all were the best and I can tell my doggy was well taken care of! 🥹🩷 The pet clinic was always clean, great attitudes, friendly faces who actually care, and great service! ❤️ If I come back to Coral Gables I know where to find you all! 🐾🫶🏾 Thank you again so much!

They don’t respect appointment times. If you book an appointment, expect to wait at least an extra hour beyond your scheduled time. They offer a drop-off service, but if you choose not to use it and instead book a timed appointment (which they offer), you still end up waiting while they prioritize all the drop-off dogs. Your scheduled time is not honored. In other words, if you don’t want to do drop-off, it’s not worth going. Your appointment doesn’t mean anything, and you’ll end up sitting there waiting as long as they want
