How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am extremely grateful for all the years of amazing on-going (and sometimes very complicated) care my dog Kenzie received at Banfield in Casselberry. I’m so very thankful for the expertise and dedication they provided in managing her multiple health issues. The entire staff always provided so much amazing care and kindness. My dog absolutely LOVED going to the vet because of the wonderful staff!! She knew they truly cared about her! During the hardest day any pet owner will ever experience, they were there for both Kenzie and for me. The kindness, compassion and love that they all showed to both of us will never be forgotten and will always be cherished. Thank you Dr. Rivas, Dr. Niloo and Dr. Klutts for all of your amazing care. Each one of you played such an important role in her life. Thank you to the wonderful staff for loving her and caring for her. She would not have been with me for as long as she was, without each and every one of you. 💕

My German Shepherd puppy is now 10 months old and weighs 103 #. Keri is Charles’s favorite vet tech. She was the first tech he met. I think he thinks she is a part of his family. He will do anything for her. The Casselberry Banfield center is well worth visiting for your pet care.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this clinic. While the doctors are excellent, the administrative staff has been consistently unreliable and unprofessional. I repeatedly experienced issues obtaining invoices and medical records in a timely manner. On one occasion, it took over two weeks—and at least four follow-ups by phone and email—to receive a single invoice. Each time, I was told it would be sent “by the end of the day” or “tomorrow,” which repeatedly proved to be untrue. That said, I want to recognize the doctors. Dr. Rivas went above and beyond in caring for my cat and was always kind and attentive. Dr. Niloofar was also very knowledgeable and professional. Their level of care is commendable. Unfortunately, the ongoing issues with the administrative staff significantly impacted my overall experience. It was, without question, the most frustrating administrative experience I have had.

This is the first time we brought our dog here because we heard great reviews and we wanted this to be our primary vet for our dog but the first visit sucked… the front desk people were nice, the doctor was also very nice, The nurse on the other hand Mikayla was rude and judgmental. She criticized everything we said we do for our dog and didn’t even give us an alternative method for anything rather than just being negative, But when we told the doctor what we do for our dog she told us everything was fine and just to see a nutritionist. For a place that works with animals hiring decent people should be crucial.

Should have looked at the rating before I even took my cat here. Had me sitting for 2 hours, they said I could leave my cat there, which I’m not going to do when it is a new vet I am going to. They should have offered me to reschedule my appointment if you knew you only have one doctor and she does not have the time. They kept saying 20 min, 20 min over and over again. They also did not them what the medication was for, just how to administer it. Dr.Klutts is the doctor name, her assistant has colorful hair,(she was the one who was supposed to explain the meds). DO NOT RECOMMEND 👎
