How to Save Money at Rosslyn Veterinary clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was fortunate that they accomodated me the same day I called them. Staffs are very friendly and vet took good care of my cat and explained everything to me.

Awful experience overall. Took our dog in to flush his eye as there was a cyst growing near his tear duct. Was charged 130$ for basically what was an attempt followed by a “we can’t do anything about it” comment and a recommendation that we go through surgery. 130$ for eye drops and nothing else. What a joke. Took him to Morinville clinic for a second recommendation. They got rid of the growth in about 5 minutes, gave us post care recommendations and only charged us $50. If you want anything done at a good price, I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Terrible service, terrible recommendation, and terrible facility overall.

I have not actually visited this vet clinic, but I had several long-winded inquiries about some cats and Katrina was wonderfully kind and helpful over the phone! She gave me all the information I might have needed and did not try to pressure me into booking anything. If I ever do get pets of my own I will be in touch once again!

Had to bring my cat here for an emergancy visit last night. Amazing place. They were super friendly, let me know the price of everything before hand. They worked with me on pricing with what was needed to be done and still came out cheaper then quoted and they even did a little extra work on her to help her feel better. When I went to pick my cat up shortly after, both the Vet and the Receptionist gave me and my wife a ton of tips on things we can do with all our animals. Highly recomend if needing an emergancy visit. Thank you again for everything you did.

Avoid this place… i brought my sick puppy in to get some help recently. And ill start by saying, the Vet himself was good. He was smart and explained stuff clearly and didnt over react or anything like that. But, the vet tech/receptionist named Nicole (working the night shift, has glasses with her hair tied up) was horrible. No exaggeration, the WORST staff member i have ever met in my life. Not just vet related but, any staff at any business ever. She was extremely rude, mean, aggressive and condescending. Just a genuinely bad person. She talked to us like we were children who didnt know anything. And she picked my puppy up the incorrect way when he was already feeling very sick. She doesnt know what she is doing, and i didnt feel safe with her holding my pup. Im not even sure how she is allowed to be a vet tech, she wasnt super careful with a sick puppy… She snapped at us and asked if we wanted to leave and go somewhere else. And she over reacted about everything, she gave us the vibe that my puppy was about to die/need a surgery. She insisted we rush him to an emergency vet ASAP because he was doing really bad. So we took him to the emergency and, he was FINE. He got a quick shot of medicine and thats it, they werent worried at all and just a few hours later he was back to 100%. So EVERYTHING she told us was completely WRONG. She doesnt have a clue what she is saying, she was making us stress and panic for no reason. Coming to this place was sadly a waste of my time and money, Nicole made it seem like a life or death situation on the phone, so i rushed him in and he was fine. I shouldnt have listened to her, neither should anybody else She even intruded on a personal family conversation that didnt involve her, she barged in and gave her opinion without us asking/talking to her (what she told us ended up being wrong, again) I honestly think she should be fired. I will never ever return here and ive already told a TON of people to never come here, strictly because of her (not anybody else! Other staff were good, this one star review doesnt reflect them, only Nicole) If i were the owner i would absolutely fire her, fast. Youll lose business having someone like that working for you. If i had a better experience i would be coming back. But due to her i will never return, and i will make sure to tell lots of people to never come here strictly because of her. If you absolutely have to come here, like its an emergency and you have no other vet to go to, just make sure to avoid Nicole at all costs. And if you are unfortunate enough to have to deal with her, just ignore whatever she tells you. Listen to what the actual Vet says, EVERYTHING she said ended up being wrong. She doesnt have a clue…
