How to Save Money at Mountain Animal Hospital and Mobile Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This clinic is a model of cooperative and compassionate care. Dr. Nathan and staff show up for their clients (our beloved pets) with individualized understanding and heartfelt empathy. It is a place where I can take my dog to build her confidence and trust at the vet, which has historically been a very scary place for her. Dr. Nathan is skilled at regulating and understanding her cues of stress and is patient in the application of care. It truly is a place of understanding and medical treatment. I have not only seen my dog’s physical health improve (managed allergies, weight control, and acute care for immediate concerns like ulcers) but her confidence and trust has also improved by visiting the clinic. If you want to feel seen and respected in your medical care - I recommend this clinic to all! Thank you Mountain Mobile Vet Clinic!

I contacted this veterinary clinic for an after-hours emergency with my dog, who was falling over and appeared sedated. My initial concern was that he may have ingested food or poison. After agreeing to meet us at the clinic, Dr. Nathan conducted several tests, but no conclusive results were found, leaving us uncertain about what caused the issue. During the visit, Dr. Nathan made a comment in front of my young children suggesting that the dog may have ingested marijuana. However, as no one in my household uses cannabis, this seemed highly unlikely and unnecessary to speculate about in front of them. It was late at night, around midnight, and my children needed to use the restroom. Since the clinic did not have accessible facilities, I directed them to a nearby 7-Eleven. Dr. Nathan expressed frustration with them exiting the building and knocking on the door to return. Throughout the visit, his demeanor seemed annoyed and impatient, which added stress to an already challenging situation. When it came to payment, no details about the costs were communicated over the phone prior to the visit, although Dr. Nathan claimed they were. He seemed to assume that every client would be able to pay $1,000 upfront without warning. When I explained that I would need to return the next day to settle the payment, he requested my license as collateral and displayed clear frustration, even after I reassured him that the balance would be paid promptly. The clinic did not offer any options for payment plans or installment arrangements, which was surprising and disappointing for an emergency situation. When dealing with a critically ill pet, especially with children present, I expected more compassion and understanding. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unsupported during a very difficult time.

Dr. Nathan and his team was able to see our dog on very short notice after he ingested a large quantity of chocolate fudge. He was thorough and took the time to understand our dog’s previous medical conditions too. We can’t thank the staff enough for taking in our dog immediately and saving his life.

From the moment I walked into the clinic, my nervous system was put at ease by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dr. Nathan was incredibly thorough and didn't try to up-sell me on unnecessary treatments/ testing for my sick pup. His kindness and genuine care were evident throughout the visit. The appointment was affordable and I am incredibly grateful. I highly recommend this team/ clinic and will definitely be back.

Dr. Nathan was great - I highly recommend his new service in town. Having a vet come to your door/home certainly reduced the fear that one of my dogs has of going to the vet. Dr. Nathan gave my dogs vaccinations and annual exams right in the comfort of our home. He wore his shield for COVID and it was nice to actually interact face to face with a vet instead of dropping your dogs off at the front door. He was friendly, professional and my girls were both very comfortable with him - maybe it was the fish treats :) Can't say enough good things. He wasn't in a rush and I was able to ask questions. Give him a try - you won't be disappointed.
