How to Save Money at Newell Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently had appointments for my cats and dog and was surprised to learn that Dr. Jasmine is a full time veterinarian at Newell Vet Services. She was a kind and compassionate doctor with our pets and I suspect with the human species also. Today I was pleased to meet with Dr. Jasmine when I took in family members pets. Thank goodness Dr. Jasmine found a respiratory illness the kittens were experiencing which had passed on to the dog. She was thorough in her examination and explained the condition and medications required to optimize the health of these pets who are loved.

I have four cats and every time I take any of my fur babies, they are very thorough and fast ( which I really appreciate as I usually make my appointments during my lunch hour). The front staff Connie & Karmen are the best, always very friendly and happy to see my fur babies.

Thank you so much to Dr. Jasmine for taking great care of our large pack of fur babies! We are so lucky to have her here in Brooks:). She is thorough, kind and professional……an excellent addition to the already wonderful staff🐾.

The staff here are kind, compassionate, and friendly. Walking in the front door, I immediately feel welcomed. My pets are deeply cared for, and their care for them is loving and cuddly. Connie and Carmen at the front desk, face the funniest things, the sorrow and abuse. It can be such a stressful job, people need to respect them and their work. It breaks my heart to hear people abuse them when things are beyond their control. I recommend this clinic to everyone. I visit just for a happy day!

As previous reviews have stated, the front receptionist, Connie, is very difficult to deal with. I cannot say wether or not the Vet's at this clinic are good or not, but I cannot give them a chance due to my experience with her. Sadly, Brooks is lacking in Vet Drs. My previous clinic had shut down and I called a month and a half in advance to book a wellness exam for my cat. Connie was rude and very flustered at even listening to which dates would work for me and where they would also be available. She also acted very aggressive when I requested that I wanted my senior cat to have blood taken (Complete blood count), which is highly suggested, even standard for senior cats during their annual exam. She asked "WHY?!" which resulted in me having to explain why this is beneficial. Finally we found a date that worked so I booked in. I was told that they would contact me prior to my appointment, as a reminder. The date of my appointment neared and I had called the office just to confirm, since I did not receive any reminders/ confirmation as said. Connie said there were no appointments that day, meaning my appointment wasn't even booked in by her. I had a feeling this was going to happen, with happened during the booking process. I told her to not bother that I would be seeing another vet instead. She then calls me back, very passive aggressively, saying that she hopes I don't have an appointment that I could miss, after saying that there were no appointments for the day we had agreed to book. Also, that I didn't give her any time to look up said appointment. This is how badly this Clinic is ran. I also had emailed them months ago and never received a reply. I am not sure how this place even gets people in through the door with such poorly lead desk reception when appointments are forgotten and potential patients are attacked. Please, do yourself a favour, and if you can go to Brooks Veterinary Clinic, or drive out of the township and save yourself a negative experience. To the clinic, PLEASE get a new front end receptionist as many people have had bad experiences with Connie as well. It's making your Clinic look very unprofessional.
