Doesn't pay much and raise monthly fees

Update 2024-07-24 below (someone called). Make yourself a favor: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Look for Desjardins insurances or other pet insurances available. Much cheaper and better coverage. I would never recommend Trupanion, never. And if you ever decide to go with Trupanion, read carefully all papers they will send you because they may deny what their agent told you. Everything was supposed to be covered and it's not the case. Imagine my surprise when I asked for a refund and it was denied daiming not covered. 2024-07-04: someone called, speaking English, saying if I ever have question, I can call 24/7, blah blah blah. I give one more star because of that. Change nothing to the rest. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Trupanion

Trupanion is just a caring, upstanding company who puts animals first. Our dog Max has cancer and we really couldn't of done it without having an insurance company like Trupanion whose dedication hard work is most certainly what our Max and ourselves needs.

Trupanion helped save my dogs life!

I only had pet insurance for under a year (paying about $50 a month) when my sweet pup suddenly got extremely Ill and had to be hospitalized for 2 weeks. There is no way I would have been able to afford all of this life-saving medical care if I didn't have pet insurance. The first hospital she was at did direct billing to Trupanion and they were very quick to respond! She unfortunately had to be brought to a higher level specialty hospital with ICU and they didn't do direct billing there, but submitting my claims online was easy. The amazing doctors and team that cared for my dog saved her life, but without Trupanion she wouldn't have had a chance! I work at a veterinary hospital and always urge clients to get pet insurance! Unless you have $15,000+ to flush down the toilet in the case of an unforeseen emergency, you need to have pet insurance. I never thought this would happen to me - my dog is under 2 years old and was perfectly healthy. Be prepared for the unexpected if you love your fur baby like I do! Trupanion has been reliable and though they may be on the higher end cost-wise, I didn't want to take any risks with a less trustworthy company. As a veterinary worker I see it almost every day where loving owners can't afford necessary life-saving medical treatment and it's heartbreaking. It should become the norm for everybody to get pet insurance when they get a new pet to avoid these horrible scenarios!

Chronic kidney disease

What went wrong. Pup diagnosed with ckd at 7 months after extensive exams. Proper diet is absolutely crucial for this condition. My Trupanion premiums do not cover consultations with experts to help me keep her condition stable. I research and do my best, but her steady decline continues. As time goes on, my dog's changing needs require more research, more guessing, more experimentation. I'm left wondering what next to try. Costs for consultations with dietary specialists are prohibitive. I pay monthly trupanion premiums ($71) in full, on time; only to witness my beautiful animal slowly expire. It's emotionally excruciating!! MY OBJECTION: Trupanion will assist with coverage for chronic urinary tract infections (and other various other infections) attributed to her CKD but not the dietary expertise/consultations to mitigate the frequency or severity of same. SO; Because this beautiful animal will expire years ahead of her time, I acquired another pup. This one is insured with Fetch; a policy with a slightly higher deductible, but with significantly lower premiums and coverage for consultations and recommendations addressing dietary concerns for conditions such as CKD. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!! Sincerely and respectfully M

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
