Not what it's craked up to be
I would make sure you do your homework before signing up with Trupanion! I enrolled my puppy last April before his first birthday. I downloaded a copy of their policy and almost immediately I wanted to cancel because there is two pages of things they DON'T cover and a small paragraph of what they do cover. I called to cancel and I allowed the rep on the other end of the phone to talk me into keeping the policy; BIG MISTAKE!!! Just this past Christmas Eve my dog was attacked by another dog, it warranted me bringing him to the ER for stitches. I called Trupanion before I went there and the rep told me an accident like this would be covered.
I completed the form and faxed it over the next business day after the holiday. The total of the claim was about $200. This was my first claim with them and I was impressed because I got an email rather quickly saying they were reviewing my claim. I actually thought everything was going to be smooth. About a day or two later I get an email from them saying my claim was denied because my dog is not neutered. Are you kidding me? I called and tried to have the claim appealed because my dog was not at fault and they claim they had the "Senior Underwriters" review it and there was no way they could cover this. Their logic is your pet needs to be fixed BEFORE they are a year old. This is something that was not explained to me when I signed him up about two weeks before his first birthday, and one of the questions they ask upon signin
