Think Twice about Trupanion

I started my pet insurance with Trupanion last year, and found it absolutely amazing until my dog started to become more ill. The policy states that if a dog needs to be on a therapeutic/prescription food diet for life I will be eligible for a discount on my premium. The day my dog was diagnosed with Crystals the doctor told me the ONLY treatment is to dissolve the crystals with Hills C/D bladder health diet, therefore this is a diet he needs to be on for LIFE. The DAY AFTER I submitted my claim, they changed my policy to remove the eligible discount on my premium, and then they UP'D my premium $5. I was furious. I contacted two employees and spoke to a supervisor, and they both told me it was "inconvenient" and there is nothing they can do. The fact that I submitted my claim before they changed my policy, you would think it would be appropriate to HONOR the old policy! There was no notice of what changes were about to become affective in my "new" policy. They did not hesitate to take the "new" premium price out of my bank account, I only had a few days notice that I was about to pay a higher fee. I am extremely unsatisfied with Trupanion! This company is known to "not increase premiums due to claim submission amounts" but this is exactly why they increased my premium. I know for a fact that the Veterinary Hospitals within my city did not put up there prices because I WORK FOR THE MAJORITY OF THEM. Think Twice before getting Trupantion.

This is a fraud company!!

Just try and file a claim with them. they are quick to take your money but when it comes time to pay out they dont. My cat had dental surgery which they claim to cover. So we filed our claim three weeks ago dint hear anything, so we called them. They said that a vet we had used three years prior to getting their coverage wont respond to their request for pet history and that they would not pay until this vet comply with their request. I have no leverage to force this vet to send trupanion anything. What a great out for them. They have revieved the last hundred dollars im eer going to give them. My guess is that they take your money but when you need them they dont pay out figuring that you will get mad and just move on. What a scam company. If you still feel like giving this company any money with the expectation that they will pay then you deserve to get stiffed. I wish I had read a review like this three years ago Id have over three thousand more dollars in the bank right now.

One satisfied customer

I submitted my claim for my dogs cancer diagnoses and heard back within 45 minutes that I had been approved and my reimbursement was issued. I dealt with Jessica and checked in to see how I was doing and even sent me a picture of her own dog lounging by her computer to brighten my spirits. Overall an amazing experience and I'm so happy were with Trupanion!

HUGE help with Glaucoma Spike

Our 10 year old Jack Russell suddenly developed a bulging, silvery eye. We immediately took her to the vets and discovered she had a Glaucoma spike that rendered her blind in that eye, was causing her pain and would result in expensive surgery. We were referred to a specialist that presented us with several options and we chose to have the eye removed. It was a heartbreaking decision. Our dealings with Trupanion could not have gone any smoother which was fantastic because I really couldn’t have handled the extra stress of fighting with an insurance company while I worried about my girl. I submitted a claim and within hours I had an email response detailing what would and would not be covered. By the end of the week I had a reimbursement check and I was very satisfied with the amount. As Sunny goes for follow ups, I fax a single page claim to Trupanion (not reams of complicated paperwork) and check of the box that tells them this is related to another claim and again, within hours I receive an update as to the status of my claim and by the end of the week I have a check. I will always use Trupanion to cover my pets.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
