Trupanion paid 90% of my vet bill. Not the vet exam or taxes but the 90% of the remainder of that. It is a very good feeling knowing that I can treat my pet without hesitation :)

Expensive but there when we needed it.
Our three year old English Cocker Spaniel stopped eating a few months ago. After several days eating next to nothing, we took him to the vet who diagnosed pancreatitis -- a potentially fatal condition. After the initial examination, Trupanion paid 90% of the remaining costs for the treatment and medicines he needed. Simon got better but has to eat special food for the rest of his life. Trupanion has continued to pay 45% of the cost of this food.

Trupanion Heartache
I had a one year old dog with zero pre existing conditions. She was playing in my fenced in back yard and that night couldn't jump on the couch. I took her to the emergency where they did x-rays, and told me to see an orthopedic specialist. I did and they diagnosed her with bilateral torn ACL's. They told me not to worry that it obviously isn't pre existing based on the x-ray report, and their exam. First, they accused me of insurance fraud because this accident happened in my first 30 days.
Then they took so long giving approval/payment for the first trip to ER that I went ahead and did the surgery. After 6 weeks of the initial visit they approved that.
Then, they declined her injury based on the x-rays 6 weeks later on her post surgery. So yes, six weeks later it is pre existing. Lets try looking at the x-ray report the day we went to the emergency when it happened. That is not pre existing, and they admitted to me they never got the report. So they didn't even get all their paperwork in 6 weeks time, but it doesn't matter they just needed some excuse the deny the claim because it was too much money for someone who just applied to their insurance.
Hopefully, no one else's pets will have an accident when you first get insured!

Fantastic Customer service
Trupanion has been a pleasure to deal - we are mid-way thru a very long recovery of our Dog Maddy after 2 torn CCLs...preparing for her second surgery in the weeks ahead. Trupanion has been a supportive & compassionate insurer allowing us to focus on Maddy's recovery & rehabilitation. The staff has been very helpful, informative & pleasant - we are pleased to see a company take what they do seriously & strive to maintain transparency in their policy - be consistent in the coverage you signed up for & not blind side you with hidden fees or rate increases because your pet has had an accident. Well done, your group is top notch in our books & we will continue to share our great experience with other pet owners!

Trupanion comes through again
Great company and great service. claim checks are received prior to my credit card bills. I had VPI for 15 years and they made up their own amounts what a service should cost. Trupanion pays 90% of the claim not what they think the claim should be. Wish I found them sooner

Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
