10/10 Great company

I have had Trupanion for my dog for 7 years, unfortunately my dog has had some health problems. Trupanion has been wonderful. Pays claims fast. Customer service is excellent, friendly caring people when you call. Trupanion will pay directly to your veterinarian if you choose and your vet agrees. (paper work involved for the vet, many can't do insurance paperwork due to staffing) They will make an emergency approval if needed, for me it was just a few hours to let me know that my claim was covered. I would definitely recommend Trupanion.

Trupanion is wonderful!

Our dog had to have unexpected surgery. It cost over $2000. I filed a claim with Trupanion that was super simple. They processed it within two days and we got our check with a week! We couldn't believe how efficient and true to the policy that they were. I would highly recommend this company and getting pet insurance. We never would have expected using it but if we wouldn't have had insurance, this whole surgery would have turned a horrible s situation way worse with a bill that we would have been solely responsible to pay. Trupanion made things just a bit more tolerable!

BUYER BEWARE

BUYER BEWARE: I signed up with Trupanion in 2013 after my dog had to have spinal surgery. Due to the cost of the surgery and rehab I wanted protection in case this happened again. Trupanion knew of the previous spinal surgery when they signed me up, assuring me that if my dog needed spinal surgery again in the future she would be covered. In April of 2017 a Veterenarian was doing a routine exam on my dog and injured her back. I took my dog to the spinal Dr to have her checked out since she was in discomfort. Mind you this is the 1st back problem my dog has had since the surgery in 2013. When I submitted the paperwork to Trupanion I was denied coverage because it is considered a pre-existing condition. I argued the point that she was injured by a person and this is an acute situation not a pre-existing. Still they denied my claim citing the 2013 surgery, so basically I have been paying for 4 years for nothing and never had coverage for the one thing I was trying to protect myself from. If you google pet insurance Trupanian is not even in the top 10. My suggestion would be to run from these people, cancel your policies immediately and go with some one else.

The Trupanion representatives are always nice when you have questions. The representative I spoke with was reassuring and I could tell loves dogs!! My puppy has to be neutered and it's nice to know if there is a problem we are covered!! Thank you Trupanion!!!

Monthly Cost

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.

Coverage

One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice. To view a full list of inclusions and exclusions, check out our sample policy here.

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
