Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). I recently lost my 3 year old cat Pika to a heart condition she was born with.
I recently lost my 3 year old cat, Pika, to a heart condition she was born with. It's been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through because she was like a daughter to me, and in my eyes, she saved my life when I first met her. If it wasn't for Trupanion, I wouldn't have even been able to attempt to save Pika's life, and that would have destroyed me, thinking there was more I could have done. But thanks to the amazing generosity and love that I got from the Trupanion family I can go to sleep at night knowing that I tried everything I could to save my baby, and even though she was so young, it was just her time. Maybe I'll get to see her again after this life, I really hope so.
I took my other cat, Ori, soon after for repeat vaccinations and a general health check. They detected a minor heart murmur. Naturally after everything I had just gone through, I was extremely nervous and scared when I was told this by the vet. They recommend I schedule Ori in for a heart test/overview, but again, I was not in a financial position to afford it. I called Trupanion and they, once again, helped me out in a time when I really needed it. Thanks to that, I was able to take Ori for the test, and am happy to report that his heart looks great! I was so happy, I was crying. I did find out he most likely has Lower Airway Disease, which I will have to monitor and help him with as he gets older. But the point is that I would have never know this, and would have been in fear of his heart failing, if it wasn't for the fact that Trupanion was there for me.
I am sending you all a really big hug and kiss from Ori, Myself, and Pika in heaven.

Anytime that I have called for assistance, Reps are always polite, courteous, professional and very helpful. Now that my Vet can email my claim forms to Trupanion, I receive notification same day of approval via email. Fast and convenient. Thank you for the great service for our Katie!
Monthly Cost
Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
