Bad business practices and gouging customers!
So, for no reason my dog’s insurance just jumped by $20/month! That’s just about $250/year MORE than I am already paying! We have NEVER made a claim or used her insurance in any way! I was sent an email with a phoney excuse that they had reviewed her breed in my town (I have never seen another Brussels Griffon in my town, ever!) and based on these other fictitious Griffons they have to increase her rates?!?! Beware. The good price you start with is not the good price you will get. Once you’re a customer they’ll up your rates. Sneaky and terrible way to do business. At a time when we are all desperately trying to tread water, being gouged by grocery stores, utilities, gas, etc. I guess they figured they would jump on board too and gouge us with the rest of them! I also didn’t appreciate the guilt tripping in the email with the “we know you want to do the right thing for your pet” baloney. Obviously I do, so why make it so unaffordable? Looks like I’m back to shopping for a new provider.

11 yrs of coverage
Trupanion has been insuring my "fur kid", Norman (most handsome Brussels Griffon you could ever meet) for 11 yrs.
He has numerous health issues - hip dysplasia, grade 2-3 heart murmur, eye/ear problems due to allergies since puppyhood, histiocytic ulcerative colitis (similar to crohn's disease in humans), chronic bronchitis and most recently he has been diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy (similar to ALS in humans).
Norman has struggled his entire life with health issues. He is an incredible dog - best dog, with the most friendly disposition - and I can't imagine what I would have done without insurance. He is loved by everyone who meets him, and the veterinary staff LOVE him - probably cause they see him at least once a month and it's like his second home. He is the "poster kid" for Trupanion!
I have NEVER had an issue claiming anything. They even covered the cost of his wheelchair! He has blood work drawn every 6 months and Trupanion doesn't have any issue covering the costs. His heart medication for 50 days costs well over $200 - Trupanion covers 90 %. Norman and I travel, and even though I have never had to take him to a vet in the United States, I called Trupanion and they assured me that making a claim while in the States would not be a problem. My dog has travel insurance!!!!
I recommend insuring your pets, and Norman is the perfect example of why insurance is so important. Trupanion has given me 11 yrs with my best friend - years that I would have never been able to afford without insurance. I am hopeful that Norman has a few more years left, but realize that quality of life is much more important than quantity of life. Trupanion is helping me ensure that Norman's last few years are as painless as possible by continuing to cover ALL of his medications.
Thank you Trupanion - Norman, Walter (his younger brother) and myself are eternally grateful!

Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
