Please get Trupanion
My wife and I insured our Cockapoo puppy with Trupanion when he was about 8 weeks old. We had visited the vet at the time, and the vet informed us that he has an ear infection, which to our understanding is a common problem with puppies. We were given ear drops and at that time we asked about pet insurance and one of the options that were presented to us was Trupanion. Without doing much research I signed up to have the peace of mind for future problems that may occur. Fast forward to two years after, most of our claims have been denied. We had another ear infection after a year, which was denied because somehow it was related to the very first infection that our puppy had. Our dog started having skin allergy problems two years after and you guessed it…it was related to the first ear infection…denied again.
Fact #1: Some ear infections are caused by allergy and therefore is an existing condition.
Fact #2: Before hitting the decline button, Trupanion did bother to call my vet nor the dermatologist to determine if there was any correlation between what was happening now, and the ear infection two years ago. Instead, Trupanion assumed it was an existing condition, and hitting the decline button was much$$$ easier to do than taking care of the customer fairly.
My advice is to put $100 per month in a savings account if you want insurance for your pet. Or, yet better, get Trupanion, so I won’t be the only one feeling stupid for having paid these guys. Good luck.
